I thought we looked good if not great in the first half. 4-3-3 meant we were actually winning a midfield battle for once. Winks sitting centrally, Sissoko and LoCelso coveting a lot of ground, LoCelso also getting forward. Typical three man midfield performance I thought. One holder, one ball winner, one box to box.
Second half we seemed to switch back to 4-2-3-1 which left Winks trying cover all areas and leaving gaps again. Sissoko looked kinda lost, and LoCelso was often too far forward.
4-3-3 just seems to suit us better, IF we can get the right balance for the roles. I was hoping NDombele would come on for Sissoko and see what difference that would make with our forward play.
I dont think we looked good but I absolutely agree that 433 is a much better option for these players.

The 3 across the midfield helps them as when we play in a two we always struggle defensively covering the space.

Assuming Jose rotates the front line against Bournemouth, possibly Lamela and Bergwijn, I think we'd see better attacking play in the 4-3-3 too. Son and Moura are both individualistic players, whereas these two are more likely to retain the ball and get their head up. Lamela can be frustrating in his own right too, but he is more of a link up player than Lucas especially.

I'd say Son, Kane and Bergwijn is my preferred front three, but Lucas and Son both playing just doesn't work.

I agree that 4-3-3 makes us look a much more functional unit and I would suggest personnel could make a signficant improvement on our play in this system. For me the big weaknesses on the ball are Sissoko, Moura and for me the full backs also. Davies had a decent game but for me Digne looked a different level to him, especially on the attacking side.

With Sissoko we have the ideal upgrade in Ndombele but I can see why Jose is concerned about using him currently. Personally I think Bergwijn over Moura is a no brainer. Lucas did a great job for the team on Monday but Bergwijn is hardly lazy either. He helped Aurier out massively vs Utd. Lucas is capable of magic but most of the time just kills attacking moves.

I think that works quite nicely. Maybe do Sonny good to have a game out too. We’re forgetting he hasn’t had much time out difference to Kane.
I’d like to see us go for this Vs Bournemouth, I know we won’t, but I’d like to see it.
Lloris
Aurier Toby Dier Sess
Winks
NDombele LoCelso
Lamela Kane Bergwijn

Although I think that’s better balance, it shows where we glaringly need some new players. Full back, DM, and Striker/WingStriker.. And that’s putting a lot of faith in the guys at CB. If we add Højbjerg to that DM role, it also frees Winks up to move up in position. Leaves big question marks over Lucas and Dele too.

Yeah, CB, backup ST and DM definitely needed in terms of upgrades also, I was mainly commenting on how I think we could improve our play pretty quickly with some simple personnel changes.
