Only saw the highlights. One question:

Any idea what Richarlison was doing in the moment right before Porro’s wonder goal? He was in the box, had the ball at his feet, and just seemed to WALK AWAY FROM THE BALL(?), leaving it for their keeper to claim.

Or did someone push him or get a little touch I didn’t see? I hope so for his sake, cuz that was a MARE.

Looked like he either tried to back heel it in, possibly, or just caught his own boot when moving out to the ball.

So we’ve added Davies and possibly Lo Celso to our list of injuries/absentees.

I look forward to Gary Neville and Roy Keane claiming Man Utd are back after they manage to beat this Spurs XI:

Vicario
Porro
Emerson
Van de Ven
Udogie
Skipp
Bentancur
Kulusevski
Johnson
Richarlison
Gil

Thank fuck for the winter break!

P.S. What on earth was Clive Tyldsley on about when he started rambling on about replacing substitutions with self-checkouts and loyalty points???

On a more optimistic note, for the Brentford game on 31 Jan (possibly the 4th Rd game too a few days before), there’s a good chance our starting XI looks like this:

Vicario
Porro
Romero
Van de Ven
Udogie
Bentancur
Bissouma*
Maddison
Kulusevski
Richarlison
Johnson

*The AFCON group stage ends on 24 Jan. Mali are in a group with Tunisia, South Africa and Namibia so 50/50 whether Mali & Bissouma progress to the knockout stages.

There could be light at the end of the tunnel, and hopefully we get a kind 4th Round draw so some of those listed aren’t required to start.

I think you're being a tad unfair on Deki.

We do need a bit better in that area but I ain't writing Deki off
The old straw man arrives again. No one is 'writing Deki off'.....its just that with Ange's title ambitions we need killer forwards. Deki will be fine as a squad member. We simply need elite level forwards to go with our elite level 1st team from Vic to AM.

Every week I'm on here banging on about our forward line not being good enough for our ambitions..For several months now (including last presser) Ange has said we need to improve our front third.. cos he wants to win things...

..but no, many supporters on these threads are weekly enraged at even the concept of their Spurs forward heroes being best as squad players.

Getting people off the 'top 4 is best we can hope for' mentality is exhausting !

Travel and preparation I would imagine. No real difference to other international competitions (eg England players)

You forgot the worst bit - fucking Lee Dixon on co-commentary during the game. It's absolute bullshit from ITV.
Normally not fussed but the main commentator might as well have been their 12th man.

I don’t understand why we didn’t try to switch Deki and Brennan Johnson occasionally in the first half. Not all the time, just sporadically. Use them with their strong feet as more orthodox wingers. When Gil came on Johnson went to the right and looked a bit more dangerous.

I thought Scarlett looked ok during his cameo. I like that little feint he did to move the defender and open up a shooting angle. Shame the ball bobbled up and he spooned it in to a defenders face.

Donley was quieter but he was diligent in his defensive work which is good.

We were at the game yesterday, we don't get to go very often as we are in midlands and tickets are so expensive. This was my youngest's (11) first game and he loved it. The eldest (16) was also singing his heart out when he could in the south stand (it was a little quiet in that stand tbh).

Take aways from the game for me was Emerson and Davies were fantastic last night, I was really impressed. Especially Emerson he was brilliant, he read the game so well considering he is a full back playing centre back. He was sweeping up and in possession he was keeping the ball and trying to find the passes out from the back.

I was also surprised and impressed with Vic, he seemed like he was living every pass. He is the most enthusiastic player I have seen in a long while. He was also giving Sess and absolute roasting for something on the last chance Burnley had and then after the whistle as well.

Bentancur to me seemed a little slow to get going but after the break he was making everything tick and I was gutted when he went off tbh, absolute rolls royce of a player.

On the negatives, I thought Richy was pretty crap last night along with Johnson who just couldn't really get anything going. Seemed a little off it both of them. Without Son we do seem devoid of that killer attacking threat.

All in all though it was a great experience which we will do more often, COYS.

I think you're being a tad unfair on Deki.

He has actually carried the attack a bit in some games. He had a couple of poor ones too but thats cause he was tired.

Against Villa he was superb and Newcastle too.

But he is having ups and downs cause of the workload.

Richarlison is never going to be top level, for a start he cannot finish in his left as we saw first half but he is still a decent option to have if we get another quality winger.

We do need a bit better in that area but I ain't writing Deki off
wasn't he playing central in those games though?

my ideal is that we get to a point where we have:

am: maddison/kulusevski
lw: new/solomon
fw: son/richarlison
rw: new/johnson

in time we'd need a new fw too but that can wait. in terms of what the squad needs most right now it's probably a cb but for the "first 11" it's the attacking areas letting us down.

What song do we play at the end of home games when we win now the dance type song?
It starts with glory glory, then they play quite a few, we stayed to sing along for about 10 mins, they also played the angels song and we all sang the Ange lyrics :)

We often seem very predictable. Kulu usually gets double teamed these days. I'd like to see conventional wingers sometimes who get quick crosses in from wide areas and I think Richarlison would benefit from some of that. Just mix it up a bit, even if it's just for the odd 10 minutes here and there.

Richarlison has scored two identical goals from Brennan on the right. It does work well you’re right. Those goals were unstoppable for the opposition.

There’s a specific dance/club type song which we’ve been putting on straight after the final whistle or straight after glory glory
