There is no doubt we have been very boring under AVB, Sherwood and Poch, curiously we have seen a huge turnover of players too so it's hard to argue they haven't had players to work with
I think the biggest problem has been all three have been dogmatic rather than pragmatic so particularly AVB and Poch want to play a certain way rather than work out how to get the best out of the players they have. This means that some good players don't play because they don't fit, others get put in positions and asked to play a certain way they are not best suited and you get a disjointed team and unhappy players. Worse still is the possession football we play, Barca can get away with passing around the back and through the midfield and back and then forward again because they have players that can beat players and that can pass and move well around organised defences. We don't have that, so possession football only frustrates . Sherwood may not have been quite so dogmatic shape wise but he thought he was always right and was very fixed in his overall footballing philosophy
Whatever it's all pretty dull and unless things improve a lot it makes you wonder how they will fill the new stadium. It's OK saying you need the stadium to get the money to pay the players, but you have to fill the stadium to get the money and especially the lucrative executive boxes. Dull football and no CL aren't going to have companies falling over themselves to fill them

Do we really have to go through the ample opportunites that we've managed to shun over these years?

Moutinho
Buying ONE proven player at cut price when we finally got to the CL
Saha and Nelson
Two seasons running weve signed no attacking players, deapite a backlash about boring football.

Our game is built around boring teams (and fans) to death

Everyone knows we need a CM and a wing/forward and maybe someone who has some craft and guile (thats not Eriksen)

Take a chance. To do is to dare.

Weve had no interest in Affelay, Xhakiri, payet, good players at reasonable prices.

If they dont work out, I dont complain, but show some intent. We have none

What about the magnificent seven

May have sounded harsh but pissed off with the whingeing on here. 42nd net spend in football league, brilliant youth set up, fantastic new stadium on way and still hitting 5th or 6th in the league season in season out.

Mistakes have been made but boy it ain't that bad. It's what being Spurs is like. We were nearly fucked 20 years ago.

We are that close to getting it very right. I've waited 35 years and a bit of patience is all we need.

Hear hear.

I didn't watch the Man Utd game or the highlights either because I was at the Wales Ireland rugby game in Cardiff , probably 1st game I have missed in 3 years, I did ask my brother to txt me the score every 15 mins though.

I gave up my season ticket just after van der Vaart left, I just don't feel any attachment to the players we have right now.

Funnily enough I was at that game too and couldn't watch for the same reason. I got my brother to text me the score too!

I would never miss a Spurs game unless I had other engagements though.

I love it when people moan about AVB/Poch not being able to break crap teams down at home and then in the same breath cite our football under Redknapp in gushing terms.

Can you guys seriously keep a straight face as you do that?

I just watched the full 90.

We were not as terrible as some people made out and I thought we were the better team for good periods of that match despite being the away side. Granted, Man Utd are integrating new players into their side, but nonetheless we did not look anywhere near as bad as the drubbing we received last term.

Yes, some different attacking options would make us more potent, but there were lots of positives to draw from. Bentaleb did not have a good game but seems to be being crucified for his error - I think we are judging him by his own high standards that he set himself last season.

I also thought Dembele was decent - not in his ideal position but looked far more confident than he has before. But I don't think right of a midfield 3 suits him or us. But what do I know?

Dele Alli looked good, Toby and Vertonghen looked solid, Kyle Walker was ok as was Ben Davies. Kane was heavily marked and tried to do a little too much by himself. Eriksen looked sharp on the ball and it's a shame he didn't score - brilliant technique.

We'll do ok this season - but if we can add the right type of player (I think a strong tackler who can pass and someone with pace to run the channels / score) we might do even better than last season.

I Agree with the OP, In fact since AVB went (Well Bale went) we lost our soul and played awful awful football, then we got Tim who was too much.

I've not been to WHL since we beat Fulham 3-1? Hugo saved a pen, Think Tim was in charge, I still love Spurs but just don't feel the need to go watch while its like this.

When Harry was in charge i was gagging to get down the lane and watch them, even Europa games! We played lovely football, attacking, looked great.

We've looked good at times with Poch but not often enough? hopefully that'll change this season with the deadwood gone and more players who buy into his style.

The situation on Stub-hub is a strange one, never seen that many tickets for opening game at WHL, but it is Stoke... is it middle of august so could be forgiven. also just FYI the people that sell for higher than face value suck.

I watched many many games at WHL when AVB and Bale were both still there and we played awful awful football. And the crowd was silent.

I'm saying Redknapp struggled just as much against the weaker teams at home as any of the others have.

oh i agree, yet most H haters dont recognise that, there is no denying we played exciting football back then, sadly something we dont see today!

But I'd argue we played probably as much exciting football under Redknapp as we do under Pochettino. With just as many 'boring' or frustrating games thrown in.

The 84th minute dash!! Ive missed about 4 winners, but saved approximately 2 days of my life!

Ah the self righteous biter. "Give it to someone who wants to go" you are of course absolutely right and hence I gave it up every time free of charge. Only.... No one wanted it!! You might have a different opinion if you had spent 10 bags on death by football.
What do you mean nobody wanted it, you just stop buying it and then it will go in a queue system to the next person and let tottenham deal with it. If you aren't happy then just don't pay and let others in.

Maske - You epitomise what I hate in the modern football/Spurs fan. Neither Levy, Poch or any of the employees of Spurs owe you anything. There isn't an obligation to spend X amount each season nor is there a requirement to play a certain brand of football. When you buy a ticket or season ticket the only thing your £50/60/70 spend guarantees you is that you will get to watch 90 minutes of football from an allocated seat. Everything else is a bonus. Stop thinking Spurs owes you something for your loyalty or the money you've spent and then you may be able to enjoy the games more.

Old Trafford on Saturday is a great example of this. I spent £46 on a ticket, £40 on fuel, £20 on food/drink etc and I knew full well that we could go and get spanked 4-0 with none of our players being bothered to turn up, but that's the risk I'm willing to take.

There's a whole host of reasons why less people are attending matches; ticket prices, travel prices or the reason I don't go to home matches anymore, people like you. I generally do one home match a season (Arsenal) but why would I want to go and sit next to people who have nothing better to do than moan and criticise for 90 minutes? Where's the enjoyment in that?

Away matches are great in comparison and if travel was cheaper I would be at every single away game this season. There was a great 5 minute period in the 2nd half on Saturday where our fans just went mental at getting behind the team. It cost us nothing, so why can't we do it at home games? There's an obvious answer but I'll let you figure that out..

and yet for all this boring football we allegedly play, we end up in 5th place pretty bloody regularly. Given that the 'top four' clubs are only going to be out of those positions if they slip up really badly, we aren't doing too bad for a club that apparently don't know how to play and with an owner that won't spend any money.

There are 15 other clubs that would give just about anything to be in the position we are in.

I only said that our football was boring, not that it isn't pretty effective. I also understand that to get into the top 4 is not a realistic expectation to have and for us to get top 4 another club must have a stinker of a season. I've also said nothing of Levy not spending money. I'm a big fan of his and what he's done and is doing for the club.

Whilst the football under Redknapp at its heights (which wasn't all that often, though in most games we showed more, sometimes naïve, intent I agree) was better, a lot of stuff is conveniently forgotten about... For instance we had about 6 months of plan A, B and C being 'boot it up to Crouchy, Rafa will get the knockdown' after it worked a couple of times in a game at the start of that season. We also had the same complaints that we have heard since his departure at times, such as the structure being too rigid with Bale and Lennon on the touchlines and not enough people in the box.

Does the author of the OP, @Maske2g realise it's August and some people are on holiday? And also that they may also not want to profit from their ticket, hence the below (probably 1/18th of their season ticket though) value pricing.

It is this type of relentless pessimism that sucks the atmosphere from a stadium.

I was at the Crystal Palace 0-0 last year. It was painful. But I waited in hope that we would nick a goal. I did not spend the lions share of the second half considering the traffic on the north circular.

Did we beat Chelsea 5-3? I couldn't get a ticket for that...that was probably fun though, wasn't it?

I still think Pochettino is missing a couple of key components personnel when it comes to the quality of football.

But anyway, although it seems like ages, he's still only been here a year and the truth is trying to replace him anytime soon wouldn't leave us in a better position barring some sort of relegation form.

I just don't think the blame should be directed at Pochettino so much when he clearly hasn't got the squad that Redknapp had.

It was a rarer occurrence under Redknap than AVB/Poch.

Last season was painful how often it happened.

Palace twice
Stoke twice
WBA
Burnley
Villa
West Ham (2-2)
Newcastle

I'm sure there were more games against teams below us we were just miserable in that we failed to even look like winning let alone actually win.

It was a surprise when a Redknapp team dropped points. It's expected now.
Do you honestly think we'll beat stoke this weekend?
Stoke.
Fucking. Stoke.
