At first thought it looked a smart move by Carberry, take the losing bonus point etc

But take a look at the actual kick. He kicks it 40 yards and it bounces about a yard out of touch. If he was simply kicking it out he’d turn backwards and kick it five yards wouldn’t he?

I reckon he didn’t know time was up

It was really weird there was a delay before people started celebrating because they were so confused at what he did.

Japan deserved to win by more.

After the first three of four phrases we lose all attacking shape. Our kicking game has gone to shit too. We used to be the best at box kicking and contesting the ball, but we don't do it any more. We defend stupidly narrow too.

Thankfully we should still qualify, but we'll lose heavily to whoever we play unless we drastically change things.

I'm disappointed. If it isn't going to be England winning any WC I'd like it to be Ireland. But this isn't the first time they've come into the tournament and not delivered. Hopefully it's a blip, but they need to kick themselves up the arse.

He's not wrong though, is he? We do shit ourselves on the big stage and playing for a bonus point against Japan isn't a great look but it might yet be an important point. He's also English and Ireland are one of their main rivals. I don't mind admitting that I don't like the England rugby side for that reason but some of my closest friends are English.

Think if (when) England don't win it, Ireland would be who I'd want to win.

Anyone but Wales really ?

Yeah don't think he was playing for the bonus point either. Was very odd.

Playing against the home nation is difficult in any sport. It was always going to be a tricky game and they played like it was their last game they'd ever played. We were poor but made a whole load of changes too. Still plenty of games to go.

Samoa v Scotland suddenly becomes a very important game.

Samoa might smell blood after that Scotland performance v Ireland. I suspect they won't be able to go the distance, but you'd certainly fancy them to score a few points.

Seemed like Japan had at least 3 extra players in that one. The effort they put in was phenominal and they fully deserved the win.

Yeah, should be a good game. Scotland would’ve got a boost from that Japan result too, though. Most interesting group so far for sure as all the teams, bar Russia, have a great chance.

I fancy Scotland to beat Samoa, though, even without Watson. Scotland v Japan is the last match, can’t wait for that one.

Expecting Samoa to be blood and thunder for 60 mins and then run out of gas. If Scotland can contain them for an hour they should get home fine.

Open game so far. Anybody's, but Wales favourites for me.

Wales playing a lot smarter. Aussies don’t seem at the races yet, in fact they’re almost approaching ‘all over the place’ levels.

Assuming we can win our group, I think we’ll give the Aussies plenty of trouble
