Absolutely. One of our key strengths back then was that with Dier and Dembele we essentially had a double pivot.
We had 5 defenders on the field who could turn defense into attack in the snap of a finger. Damnit I miss that team.

We had our best season ever playing almost exclusively a back 3, Chelsea won a title with the back 3. The formation isn't the issue. We don't have the perfect players for it anymore, due to the drop in quality from Dembele & Wanyama who could manhandle any midfield between the two of them & Walker. But its still effective.

People also seem to forget we pummeled Dortmund using 3 at the back.

Everything clicked that season, Rose and Walker in particular being wing backs, their running constantly opening up space for Eriksen and Alli and Dembele and Wanyama just shutting things down in midfield.

Love Poch - I have faith and belief that he will secure top 4 and get the team to respond in the 2nd leg.

Even if we fail on both of those accounts, I'll still love Poch

This is in no way a bonus. Remember, we don't have to have a certain number of HG players... we are just limited on the number of non-HG players.

KWP will no longer be registered as an U21 player and will therefore need to occupy one of the 25 senior squad places. That takes away a squad place from somebody else. The nationality thing isn't a factor at all because he is HG. So if Poch doesn't want to play him it would be the right time to sell him.

Thought for CL you had to have 8 HG to be able to have the full quota

I don't blame him for formation or tactic like a lot of you, I think he had reasons do play that way. I just can't understand one thing. Kieran Trippier. He's been awfull whole season. Whole season. Definitely our worst player and we have to say that competition for that precious award is big this season. Why on earth is he still first choice when we have KWP and even lately Foyth. Why haven't they been given a chance for like 5 games in a row.

You should take this opinion over the the Trippier thread - which is all sorts of fun!

I think 99% of fans can see how poor Trippier has been this season.

Apart from @Paolo10 of course, who loves him very, very much.

Poch clearly isn't an idiot. There was a plan last night, but clearly it didn't work. Maybe the problem was the plan itself, or the players not doing what was instructed. Or maybe Ajax just started better than we did. Either way, once the change was made we were back in the game. With Son or Kane playing we would have created more problems for them. Llorente just aint in that class.

As for Tripper... despite his lack of form / fitness, starting Foyth or KWP would have been a massive gamble. Anyone at the Huddersfield game will tell you that KWP really didn't do all that much; certainly nothing to demand a starting place. Foyth is still a rough diamond and must be treated carefully. I think he's going to be majestic, but he has some way to go yet.

I give Poch more praise than anyone when he’a got countless tactical and personel decisions correct but one thing I don’t get is how sometimes he can just get something so clearly obviously wrong.

Last night before the game Hoddle said about the back 3 will turn into a 5-3-2 and will play into Ajax hands as they will be able to overload the midfield and push us back and that is exactly what happened, I could’ve told him that too, ok his hands were a bit tied due to injuries etc but I still think he could’ve found a way to play 4atb.

Then there are other decisions like Eric Dier at DM, everyone else for a few seasons thought it was genius but I thought at the time it was strange and now people are starting to agree that he’s not a good enough CDM. Now he’s playing Foyth at RB over Trippier and KWP, is Foyth really a RB? He doesn’t have much pace and doesn’t cross that well, he could be a ball playing CB or actually he could make a very good CDM but RB, nope can’t see it.

It’s funny on one hand there are now so many versions of spurs that it’s a benefit that we have a plan A B C D E, we are flexible and unpredictable but also is Poch just over complicating things? The best teams have a set formation and way of playing and then they have a plan B when needed. Barcelona have played 4-3-3 for years, city and lpool have played the same formation all season, AC Milan in their successful era played a narrow diamond for 5-6 years, Fergies man.u played 4-4-2 for years etc etc, I think we need a proper sort out this summer and for poch to decide on a way he wants us to play and get players to fit accordingly and unless we have flying wing backs and dynamic CM’s just don’t play 5-3-2 as it doesn’t work with the wrong personnel against possession based 4-2-3-1/4-3-3.

That is true, but there is nothing that says you must register a full 25 man senior squad. We currently have 22 registered with UEFA and 17 of those being classed as non-HG. Only five of our senior players count as HG in the eyes of UEFA.

We have 22 registered with the FA but 6 players count as HG - Davies being the difference to the UEFA squad.

So in both competitions we are fielding a squad of 22 with fewer than 8 HG players. It's totally fine to do. When KWP becomes a senior the only difference it will make is that we have a registered squad list of 23.

Lets hope Poch instill some Argentina stye of physical dirty plays against Ajax next round. Those young uns would be shocked amd their confidence would be ripped to shred. Give them what we gave Jordan Sancho.

Also we had the best defence in back to back seasons because the defence had proper protection.
