It's a fair point, Mourinho's whole thing is dragging teams over the line to win trophies.

If he's backed, with the couple of players we need, he probably is closer to winning trophies here than he would be at United, where the squad needs a thorough overhaul. But, the million dollar question is, will he be backed here? If he's not, then United probably are closer!

I suppose the question is ...what is more likely - Utd to spend 500m or Spurs to spend 150m.

If you measure "better" in trophies (I don't personally, but the media do) then the answer is obvious (especially given the inferiority of their playing staff).
Yes, but we all know the real question here is "who has achieved the most with the resources at his disposal?".

Of the 15 or 16 managers we had throughout the 90's and 00's, how many of those were actually wanted by someone else, let alone another so-called big club? He's wanted because he's built something here and others want what we have.

Of course, I want him to go on and keep building us into something even greater. With the new stadium and this team, plus a little extra (starting with an N'Dombele for Christmas, for example), we can all imagine what we could become if Poch stays. But with success, comes jealousy and people coveting what we have. And so, I'd rather have others want our manager than not. It means we're doing something right.

What are you talking about?
They have won a few minor trophies but nothing big. Their managers have been spunking huge fortunes on big name players but they have been rubbish.
Pochettino has been spending a tiny fraction in comparison but playing better football and generally being higher in the league. He HAS been better which is EXACTLY why they want him.
With their resources he would have NO trouble taking them FAR beyond us within 2 season. He'd get half that squad playing better than ever and he'd remove the other half and replace them with better, younger, hungrier players.

Yes but they are Manchester United, the biggest club in the world, instant success is expected, the premium requirement is challenging on all fronts and coming away with silverware.

For those in any doubt, the point I was trying to make (perhaps too subtly, admittedly) is that, despite our squad having been plenty good enough to win things the last few seasons, we haven't. Why? My contention is that it's mostly because Poche is still developing into a top level manager and very little to do with "backing" (or perceived lack thereof).

Just as well, he's an embarrassment

Yeah he is a bit ott, but he loves Tottenham. Embarrassment is a stretch when describing former captain who lifted silverware at The Lane.

He’s a nice bloke. I met him when I had corporate tickets at The Lane. I was trying to get a photo with my grandad and a few of the old spurs legends and Roberts told me to wait with my grandad where we were standing, went off and rounded them all up and returned for the pic.

His social media conduct is an embarrassment, maybe he's ae nice person in real life and obviously he a a club legend but he chats a load of nonsense on Twitter and needs to learn to conduct himself a bit better.

Biggest club in England.

Big difference. Try going to Germany, Italy, Spain etc or anywhere in South America and tell people United are the biggest club in the world. You’ll create a few chuckles. Hell, you’d get a few arguments if you went to Scotland and said it!

Would Jose have won silverware with the same set of players Poch has? Genuine question.

I have a feeling he would have. I also think our squad are far more suited to Jose’s personality and approach.
Poch might struggle with the pampered half arsed stars that are at United thesedays. It’d would take him a while to sort it out

Huh?

Jose wouldn't win anything with this squad because all he'd do is piss them off like he has the last 3 times he's managed clubs.

Levy has to get Lewis to inject some cash into the Club because I really don't like the reports of Poch turning his pockets out and saying "I don't have money" in response to questions about the January transfer window. I think Poch is seriously considering his options right now and who can blame him.

You're not allowed to just put money into the club willy nilly any more due to FFP. You have to go through all sorts of accounting wizardry like City have been doing.

Plenty have and plenty do. That’s just spin by the British media.

Robben, more than once, Kroos, Benzema, Bale, Gascoigne, Anderton, Kluivert, Shearer, Ronaldinho, even Moura spurned them for PSG when he moved there.

Poch will have PSG and Real sitting there waiting to appoint him when the time comes. This won’t be his last chance at a mega club ( rich in PSG’s case, they aren’t a giant by any means but Poch loves them )

I think and hope Poch has enough unfinished business with us that he gives us a few more years yet.

The thing that annoys me about this narrative.

United are "big" because of the success they have enjoyed over the last 30 odd years due to Sir Alex.

2 more years outside the CL and they start to look more like an Aston Villa or Newcastle in their respective earlier PL incarnations.

A clubs size and incumbent expectation is essentially a function of their success.

This being the case I find it a bit stupid that the narrative is always...club x was successful before so they need to be successful again. Man City threw that out the window.

Keep Poch - win a few trophies this year - fuck United, Liverpool and Arsenal and all the other clubs who seem to think they somehow deserve success in the future because they were successful in the past.

He won more at United than both Poch and Klopp have done in there times in England. Ones hated the other two loved.

Look at our side and the approach we take. Our relative success is built on the collective, working hard, the side is full of substance. Jose’s best sides have always been about that. His first stint at Chelsea, Inter and of course Porto.
