I took my boy to the range again this evening and it went fairly well.
only downside is I felt my forearm getting sore as we went through and then suddenly on a shot this sharp stabbing pain just below my elbow. Any one had that before? I’m guessing it’s due to the way I held the club or constantly hitting the floor?

Can’t say I’ve ever had that but maybe your grip is too strong or weak?
As others already said, I can’t preach that a couple lessons to start with will help you no end..so you don’t end up with bad habits from the get go that are then difficult to shake.
As someone who took pride in playing off 12 with no lessons at all, after feeling like I’d stalled, having just 2 lessons took 4 shots off me

Which arm was it and where on the elbow was the pain? It sounds like a bit of golfers elbow to me? I've suffered from it for years but manage it by loads of stretching before i but and also try to avoid hit the mat too much.

Literally just below my right elbow (right handed), a quick google screams golfers elbow which is brilliant news.

Coming back from a bad rotator cuff injury on the other side I was scared that would be my problem. Imagine my glee that it’s now the other side I’ve got an issue.

I broke 80 off the White tees for the 1st time ever at my home track yesterday (Boringdon GC, Plymouth, UK). Shot 78 gross, 68 net. No penalty strokes, no double bogeys.

The course is a long one for me and with my average driving distance being about 200yards, shooting anything around my handicap there is a proper effort (as it should be!), going under it is dreamland :)

First competitive round of the year yesterday. Me being me I chose a medal would be a good idea 🤣

Have had some really good practice over the last couple of weeks and tweaked my set up and finally starting to find my baby fade from off the tee that was my go to shot when I was at my lowest handicap.

Actually played nicely for the most part but 4 bad holes let me down. Was 8 over for 14 but 3 doubles and a triple, and 3 of them in the last 3 holes killed me. The legs were going walking up 16 as well with the ground being so heavy and being a bit unfit didn't help either.

Going to give it my best to get out once a week minimum and practice once a week with the longer evenings. Plenty of positivity though after yesterday.

Great shooting. That's the score to beat now.

Brilliant effort especially being pretty short off the tee - you must have nailed virtually every 3 wood/rescue into the greens and got up and down a few times as well

Approach play was excellent, proximity to hole was good, 29 putts (good for me!). 5 wood and 7 woods were lovely all day (don't carry a 3 wood). I average 85 off the whites there, so this score is likely to be the exception. Still, cut 0.6 overnight. Looking forward to the challenge of playing off 8.6 now

Found this interesting yesterday. How frequently each handicap bracket will score level or better than their handicap. Makes me feel a lot better 🤣

That's really impressive! Your short game must be razor sharp.
Breaking 80 is my holy grail atm. I've got to 80 twice but never 79

Who do we have for the USPGA?

I've gone down the ballstriker/excellent long iron player route as it sounds like staying out of the rough will be crucial, so they might lay back a fair bit.

Rahm to win, E/W on Homa, Hovland, Morikawa and Min Woo Lee

Similar picks (although perhaps not for the same reasons)
Rahm to win
Mcilroy, Hovland, Theegala , McIntyre
E/W
The rough at Oakhill looks a nightmare
