Finally catching up with Drive to survive- would it be easy to get in with haas?
Would have thought that after sacking mazepin that they are struggling for money
McLaren is a bigger name/team, they're the best of the rest. They also have Lando (I expect him to be there for a long time).

I'm paraphrasing but VW positioned it as Porsche being with the best (Red Bull) and Audi being in a tier below.

BMW might also join in the future too...

I would guess Haas are pretty happy with the Ferrari engines. Continued success this season should land them a sponsor to replace the Mazepins.

So Free Practice 1 starts at 1.30pm local time? Was looking at the weather expecting it to be a zillion freedom-degrees but that's a clear weekend, not too hot - depending on the circuit, this could be a really good weekends racing if the cars all manage to stay in one piece.

Dude, I've never watched a second of F1 in my life, I just wanted to draw attention to the fact that there was an F1-like race level set in Miami in 2018's HITMAN 2 that was more fun than Elden Ring on cocaine. All told.

This really feels like something different event wise. It feels like you’ve invented a new Monaco with all the glamour and razzmatazz. Pretty cool tbh.

This is the atmosphere that F1 dreamed about taking hold in the US.

Next year at Vegas will probably be even better - in terms of star power attraction.

I had totally forgotten that Beckham's team were Miami but, yeah, the FIA will be pulling out aaaaaall the stops here to try and get noticed so that grid walk is going to be Martin Brundle not getting recognised by anyone and him sassing the shit out of them like a hero.

F1 know they can't rival NASCAR there but if they tag onto the East Coast then they get a portion of the general motorsport fans to fill the stands and it's only a short flight from the Carolinas, plus the local idiots Floridians celebrity hunting - I expect this will be a well attended event, looking forward to seeing what the drivers think of the circuit after FP1.

Just tuned in to see a bit of the free practice and shots of the crowd, I'm not sure anyone is actually just watching it, every single spectator has their phone held up in front of their faces :D

Is this going to break a record for "most live-tweeted tik-tok-o-rama Grand Prix of all time"?

Right, except according to the BBC's story on Hamilton not liking driving the current Merc, it was the major subject at the driver's briefing:

The DRS on the back straight took up a very small amount of discussion in a drivers' briefing that ran to two hours, the majority of which was taken up by the reminder the FIA gave before the weekend that the wearing of jewellery and non-compliant underwear in a racing car was forbidden.

Inevitably, given Hamilton's visible nose stud, this was immediately perceived by some to be targeted at him. But that was not the case. The nose stud is a minor concern for the governing body.

Far more worrying for the FIA was the fact that they had discovered - it is not quite clear how - that some drivers are racing in normal underwear, which is not fireproof and is therefore a risk to them, as it could melt in a fire. And the same goes for a watch with a plastic strap. Metal jewellery, of course, is a heat conductor and would risk worsening injuries in a fire.

Hamilton said "it was the longest driver briefing of my life" - a point true, it seems, both in a literal and figurative sense.

"I don't really understand the small things they're picking up, like the underwear," he said. "Are we really talking about that sort of thing? Anyway, we move on."

But if you want to go all tinfoil hat about Hamilton in some way being targeted, then you carry on.
the driving briefing happened after the Directors notes but sure

It's honestly closer than you would think. Outside of the Daytona 500, F1 has been getting about half of the viewers of NASCAR. Considering a lot of the races occur at odd times on Sunday it's pretty impressive how rapid the growth has been. It's very similar to when the PL first started taking off on NBC.

The Mercs are running different wings this race, so it looks like they're narrowing this issue down to something they can remedy with the aero, rather than chassis or tyres, which is probably the most fixable of the three - Russell really does seem to be able to dig just a little bit more out of that car though, looked a lot more confident in second practice.

Was there any news on what happened with Red Bull? Overheating, gearbox change, hydraulic issues - that's just a whole heap of a mess for them.

You mean Danica Patrick on Sky ? Yes very easy on the eye. So looking forward to this gonna be a great race I think and brundle grid walk will be epic. Can’t even imagine what vegas will be like next year. With them adding a few more races in future it really wouldn’t surprise me if we see some more glamour street race locations London ? Paris ? Etc.

Think they probably will as that’s where the money is. I just hope they give some thought to the track designs. These street races are often quite tight with limited overtaking opportunities and too much time behind safety cars.
