Ange has said like 5 times in pressers already he doesn't want to the same types of players for each position, so why would he want someone with the same strengths as VDV?
I mean if we should either spend on someone as good as Romero/VDV or just give the chance to Phillips/Dorrington, no point signing another player that we may struggle to shift and block the youngsters' path to first team

Underwhelming. Kelly is not a player that has the vibes similar to VDV, and it may block the path of Phillips and Dorrington to first team.

In fairness, the same was said about VDV when most wanted Tapsoba.

Kelly is equally competent at LB.

Which is handy as finding someone willing to understudy Udogie will be like the Kane problem.

Especially if they only play one role.

So with European football I wouldn’t worry about blocking pathways.

Worse would be denying one or both youngsters a loan when not getting real minutes as 4th choice.

All very true, it looks to me like that 100m was not used for transfers but to shore up the balance sheet.

Liabilities and loans are much higher than cash on hand, but a lot of that can be excused by the stadium build and training ground.

But, that's my point: the accounts don't show large sums of money being made and hoarded year on year (excusing the £100m equity loan)
well i would argue that the money paying off the loans for the stadium is equivilant to paying a mortgauge (simplistically) and when they sell the club they will keep all the money including the added value of the stadium so essentially the club is like a tennant of enic paying its mortgauge for an assett it will will realise the profit on when it sells, not the club (tennant) who will see none of it but has paid for it. So i would argue the loan payments are pretty much non direct payments strait into Levy and Lewis' pockets as and when they sell

Prof on COYS re Lloyd Kelly:

Bournemouth wanted a price significantly beyond what any of the interested teams were willing to pay, which was a bold decision given his contract expires in less than a year. Maybe they feel they can use the extra time to persuade him to sign a contract extension. If that doesn’t work out, they’ll either have to sell him in January or lose him for free next summer. The current plan is for us to try again in January and/or June. Of course, those plans could be changed by another team being willing to pay more than us in January, injuries (either to him or to one of our key players), loss of form, or higher-rated players becoming available.
So Lloyd Kelly is the new Dybala. It feels like a bit of a step down 😅

We acceptred Fulham's (high) offer but he had no interest in going there. If we'd have accepted lower offers, someone else would have taken him., he'd be gone and we'd have signed the one player the manager wanted. That's the whole point.

I thought the manager wanted Johnson?

My point about challobah on deadline day, because you haven't bought one is no reason to panic buy the wrong one.

Not sure I agree with this. Can see sessegnon being useful at lb and being asked to play similarly to udogie.
just needs an arm round the shoulder it would appear.
Hopefully ange will man-manage him better.
Nah - the kid has proved time and again he’s not good enough and doesn’t have the mentality. He’s scared of his own shadow and lacks belief. Ange is a great coach but he’s not a magician.

He was available for sale before injury and so I doubt that’s changed since

Ange has said himself the targets are "nothing to do with him" until they're advanced. Gallagher was the only target that he wanted himself.
He wanted Van De Ven when he was at Celtic, widely reported.
He found the Japanese players at Celtic from his experience in that league.
He is going to have some idea himself on some, they all won't be recommended.

Plenty of posts telling us how much the club can spend, but not one from anyone who knows what financial ratios and covenants they have to observe under the terms of their loans.

You can be certain, though, that there are many restrictions we know nothing about. Lenders don’t hand out £850,000,000 of long-term credit and simply trust the borrower to be careful.

Good point. I saw something recently where Wenger talked about part of the conditions of Arsenal getting credit for the Emirates meant there wage bill wasn’t allowed to go above a certain level and the creditors wanted him to commit to a long term contract (which never happened)

This is a good point. Such versatility should also enable us to sell Davies, Sess, and Reggie (which of course in practice could be easier said than done).

In the season where we have limited games do we not want to at least try and give Phillips and Dorrington a couple of opportunities off the bench to develop and become our own 20/30m back up options

Depends if they show enough in training to get that chance

Yes, watch his press conferences.
That was him when Asked specifically about Johnson… who wasn’t a Tottenham player. seemed pretty obvious to me that he was deflecting or simply refusing to answer the question.

he’s repeatedly said he’s always gets his way with targets (not arrogantly) and multiple sources have said he’d specifically targeted BJ?
