Wasn’t there some weird rule that allowed us to sign Rodon from a football league club late? Was that just a Covid quirk or that weird year when the window closed early?

We've signed two CBs on permanent deals this summer (VDV & Phillips). Are you forgetting about them or Romero & Rodon? 🤷‍♂️
Philips is for the future.

Rodon was a poor attempt at trying to get around having to spend 40m on one.

We have bought 2 established CBs in 5 years.

It is a poor effort especially when those that they were replacing left ages ago.

Just to confirm...as of 21.21 on deadline day...we have signed nobody today?
We have, but it’s hush hush so far. We’re doing our usual trick of not announcing our only singing till late so it looks like a win.

Essentially for those who think Levy still lives off the VDV last minute deal, this is his way of repeating it every window.

Absolutely but needs must and in that worst case scenario I'd still sooner throw him in than rely on the other two, maybe that's just me. Sanchez is the only backup CB i trust in this system.

You'd do that in real life would you?
Throw an 18 year old into a high line in the hardest league in the world, in reality you'd be having doubts, it's a serious pressure cooker.

Thought the plan was to future proof HG players now then have open market next year.

Won't that just leave us having to focus on getting HG players again next year?

We've also only just got round to signing a sodding Eriksen replacement FGS.

This ownership have never seen out a plan.

Unless it is in bricks and mortar and allows them to make a killing off it.

The window was open a bit longer for lower league clubs for some reason

So our new manager openly talked about wanting another defender, the only position he openly talked about wanting and we couldn't do it.

New manager same issues.
Our new manager also openly talked that he doesn't want to have big bloated squad and need to focus on outgoings. He also looks ok with Dave staying as 3rd center back

This is it.

This is the take from this window. Especially after selling your best goalscorer of all time for huge money

When you consider the cash injection it's especially frustrating that we don't buy at least a CB. Blaming no suitor for Eric who's gone next season regardless.

Surely we could survive financially paying another CB 50k/week in the meantime.

Why open us up to such huge risk in defensive areas for such a little outlay. Just doesn't make sense.
