Meh, going to be the usual birthday on 1st Feb for me.
Hopeing for a top of the range PlayStation but getting a fucking megadrive.
Sounds like you plan to console yourself then.

Seeing a lot of contrasting reports about Piatek that suggests, along with the ITK, that something must be happening with regards to a striker, so at least we seem to be moving towards getting some legs in

This talk of building a title winning squad is understandable but shouldn't be priority at this point.

We have to get top 4. That's not negotiable. Therefore if we have to find short term solutions such as signings who can do a job for a year or quality loans with or without options to buy, then so be it. No top 4 = much bigger rebuilding project than we have currently, and with far less money.

If we can shore up the short term signings with a couple of decent young prospects to join either now or in the summer then that's great, but in the mean time signings like Piatek are exactly what we need to be looking at.

It's not ideal, and it's entirely down to our woeful transfer strategy (or lack thereof) over the past few seasons that we're in this position, but what we should or could have done is irrelevant; it's about the here and now, and so I'm encouraged by the ITK linking us to Piatek.

Has there been any ITK on how many signings we're looking to make? We already have glaring holes in the squad, and if Eriksen, KWP and Wanyama go this window, which looks quite plausible, we're presumably going to need to sign replacements in the interests of squad depth, even if the latter two have barely featured.
Good post, you’re spot on. And you didn’t mention Grealish and his calves once...

I loved my Megadrive.

But there’s no use hoping for expensive toys when the bank of bald headed mum & dad haven’t bought any in the past. That’s just setting yourself up for disappointment.

Maybe just see what you unwrap on the day. If you’ve dropped hints, and they can afford it, you may be pleasantly surprised.

(Cue dozens of comments about shit birthday presents in the past, like the one that’s a cheap knockoff version of what you wanted, the one that’s just borrowed to see if you’ll actually play with it, the one made in New Zealand, and the one that always breaks as soon as you touch it)

KWP & CPFC. They want loan only! We want ‘loan with compulsory option!’ We value him as a young English at 20m. But fee could be lower if they agree to massive sell on etc.

Foyth. We won’t allow loan only, and if we do then high loan fee. We rather sale at ‘unrealistic price’. Various options being explored against the interest received.

We would be stupid to sell Foyth. He's young but he will be a great player when he gets the game time to get rid of the mistakes. Smacks of short term squad management which Jose is famous for...

Foyth is interesting. Got a positive comment from Jose after the Bayern game but imagine his Norwich horror show scared the bejesus out of Jose. I think his success with us was always linked to Poch's longevity and now that that has gone i'd be inclined to move on while we can still get a decent fee

This makes me sad.

Hmm not a massive fan of that news from Herc.

Why not take the loan only on KWP? If he establishes himself his value probably goes up. Fair enough sell if we can get £10m+ this window if we need it for other signings, but I'm not convinced those offers come.

I still think there's a player in Foyth too, so really don't want to see him leave. Shame Jose won't try him at RB.

Bit surprised about Foyth. Wasn't that long ago that Mourinho was singling him out for praise after the Bayern game. I know he made an error vs Norwich but it wasn't THAT bad.

I'd much prefer we keep him. Clearly very talented and capable. Just needs to be coached.

Good news. I think people massively overrate KWP and Foyth. Good to see we'd rather sell than loan, as they're never gonna be good enough for us.

But 20m for KWP and a "at ‘unrealistic price’" for Foyth, I think Levy is just being Levy here again. We won't get that kind of money for two non-starters, and not even close to be.

Not totally surprised with the update. KWP is a million miles away from a Mourinho type player and best for both parties if he moves on. Pushing for a sale rather than a loan so we can generate some funds. Kind of similar with Foyth. He has something about him imo but again not convinced he has the makings of a Mourinho type CB.

If Mourinho has been told we have to trim the squad to get players in, not too hard to understand why he'd look to get those two out the door.

Thanks Herc, would much rather both were straight loans in the Prem to see how they perform with regular football and then decide on selling them or not in the summer.

While I agree that Foyth is a great prospect, I can understand selling him if there’s interest. Especially if we are planning on getting in a quality CB. There’s only so many starting places and squad places and we have other young CB prospects like Tanganga.

Foyth out makes sense, Tanganga seems rated by Jose, Toby and Sanchez are on long deals and whether Vertonghen or one other, having two young prospects at CB in the match day squad is overkill and harmful for their development.

KWP... well that must mean we’re working to replace him... I hope... Please...

Letting Argentina's right back leave is a big mistake imo, I can only imagine that Foyth is pushing for this to get some decent playing time.
