Obviously I hope any signings we might make help us push on for a chance at Top 4 this season. But, for me, it’s just as important that any player(s) we sign this window should hopefully mean that much less work to do in the summer. The issues with this squad aren’t getting fixed in 1 window and it’s a stretch to think it will in 2. The news about Piatek is music to my ears.

KP ticks a lot of boxes; athletic, decent off both feet, good in the air & speaks good English, which should help him settle quicker.

Agree and will hopefully help us with goals from set pieces too! Also good that Kane may have help when he is fit .

Feel he will have more hunger on the pitch then FL demonstrated too!

Sun reporting KP for 28 million. Don't understand the move at all. Not having a big year in Italy and seems like a 28 million purchase is a lot of money when we have a host of other long term needs and clearly only a limited amount of money.
IF Levy sanctions it it seems to me that this is all about top 4 and will come at the expense of building a title winning squad.
Need to be approaching this the Liverpool way - look for gaps and be patient about filling them with the right players.
LB, RB, CB, DM and securing GLC for AM are all more important

What's wrong with top 4? And we are not winning the title this season!

No top 4 means less likely to have income to sustain better player wages .....

2 plus 2 makes 4!

Lots going on atm, lots of discussions with multiple players in a number of positions. In terms of transfers, not time to panic at all. It’s looking positive, that’s for sure.
This is good to hear, but the thing that I simply don't understand is why this seems to happen in a transfer window and not before. It's not against any rules to talk to agents and clubs in the first half of the season with a view to conducting a transfer during the window, so why is it that we always seem to try do do everything in a hurry? I realise that we generally get the ITK during windows and that discussions may be happening at other times, but if that was the case then you would think we would sign players at the start of a window instead of seemingly always at the end.

There are too many variables - injuries, new managers, availability, our budget depending on outgoings, selling club takeover, etc....

The main thing is it is positive we are in with more than one player this early on!

I bet it was Eriksen and his agent :cautious:

I can't really complain that Eriksen is honouring his contract though to be fair. It's rare these days. Still would like us to get a decent amount this month and put our faith in Lo Celso. It's all a bit too boring now and runs the risk of tainting his time here somewhat. Should still go down as a club legend though.

Club legend?! Bloody hell

28 million really isn't that much in the modern market. I mean I think it is more or less what he's worth. I mean the need is simple, Kane is out for a long time. We need another striker. Son can't do it on his own and Moura is really not convincing in the role. I think Jose would have bought a new striker in the summer in any case. KP hasn't scored a lot this season but the whole team has been very poor, he is still their top scorer and, ultimately, we are buying a second or third choice striker here, not a world beater. I think he is good enough.

GLC is secured, as long as we wont him, we have an option on him next summer, I am pretty sure that this deal was already financed in the summer. If we are trying to find the right players we should wait til the summer. in jan it's just about seeing who is available and making opportunistic signings.

I think we are no way close to building a title winning squad and we will be even further away were we to finish outside the top 4. The top 4 is clearly the priority here.

What's the chances of getting the wishlist and scouting thread open @Rob @Archibald&Crooks ?
The same as the last time you asked. Sorry. (I'm pretty sure it was you, apologies if it wasn't)

I keep saying this but you have as many threads as you like to wishlist in. The player threads are all open for that.

It wasn't me.

So if I wanted to start a discussion on recommendations for a striker purchase where would I do that? In the Piatek thread?

Yeah, if it's a thread for a striker that would seem to be the best place for it.

This talk of building a title winning squad is understandable but shouldn't be priority at this point.

We have to get top 4. That's not negotiable. Therefore if we have to find short term solutions such as signings who can do a job for a year or quality loans with or without options to buy, then so be it. No top 4 = much bigger rebuilding project than we have currently, and with far less money.

If we can shore up the short term signings with a couple of decent young prospects to join either now or in the summer then that's great, but in the mean time signings like Piatek are exactly what we need to be looking at.

It's not ideal, and it's entirely down to our woeful transfer strategy (or lack thereof) over the past few seasons that we're in this position, but what we should or could have done is irrelevant; it's about the here and now, and so I'm encouraged by the ITK linking us to Piatek.

Has there been any ITK on how many signings we're looking to make? We already have glaring holes in the squad, and if Eriksen, KWP and Wanyama go this window, which looks quite plausible, we're presumably going to need to sign replacements in the interests of squad depth, even if the latter two have barely featured.
