I remember reading a lot of press reports suggesting Villa would accept around £25m for Grealish but Levy was only willing to pay around £5m - £10m due to the Villa financial situation. If Levy pulled it off then he would be getting the plaudits but he didn't so then it was why didn't he just bid closer to the £25m they wanted for a player whom we had apparently chased for a while. I recall originally Villa wanted £45m for him. Regardless as Trix said it was complicated.
Yeah but can't really blame Levy trying to get a good deal, considering the circumstances at the time. Very few clubs will wade straight in at the stated price.
Anyhoo, don't want to drag this thread off topic.

If that's right re: Eriksen's contract and our foreknowledge, that should be a sackable offense.

He was a c. £100m+ asset at one point. It's little wonder that his motivation has faltered.

He should have been sold, we should have reinvested the money. It's a massive cock up.

Equivalent to Hazard or Coutinho walking on a free IMO, However during Eriksen’s prime we did achieve CL football for a few years in a row that far outweighs a transfer windfall in terms of finances.

We could’ve done better to manage the situation and moving forward we need to foresee these kinds of things and sell while the asset is highly valued but I’m not overly agro about it.

You forget we were giving them Onomah too! Levy valuing Josh at £40 mil was more than reasonable :p

To be fair, with it being so quiet on the itk front, it would be nice to have a thread for general transfer discussion. At least until things get busy.

I'm just not sure where to discuss potential signings like replacing Harry.

Agree. Flitting between player threads is ok but it's only player that we've been linked to. Should we be clogging up the Kane thread with wishlists? Maybe but I like the idea of a general transfer chat thread. As I said, if SC isn't too busy, maybe it wont create too much extra hassle for the mods.

Lots going on atm, lots of discussions with multiple players in a number of positions. In terms of transfers, not time to panic at all. It’s looking positive, that’s for sure.

Possibly Piatek - ST
Linked with Semedo - RB
Eriksen linked with Inter, Vecino (Midfielder) signing for us as part of the deal.

All three play in positions where we need new players.

Given its been time to panic for 2 and a half years, you’ll forgive some of us for.. well.. panicking...

I'm afraid it is time to panic. This is Spurs we are talking about. We get told the same stuff most windows only to be disappointed.

Having said that, your words do give me a glimmer.

Here's hoping Levy goes on a mad one, similar to Redknapp's first January. Needs to.

Not gonna lie, I had written this season off after the news of Harry's surgery.

Thanks for the update @Tottenhamboys
