Does that include the near 2 mil basic wage it'll cost for the extra 6 months? Or the bonuses he'll receive.

I think the haggling over fees is because we think that Schalke should be getting as big a fee as they'll be saving the wages. On the other hand, it would cost us a fee and extra wages for a player we're getting for free in 6 months.

Personally I believe that it is necessary to strengthen the midfield now due to the Sandro injury- however I can understand DL's reluctence to outlay what could amount to about 4 million for 6 months

If we sign Moutinho, we too need to pay wages. What kind of rational is that? Schalke need the money to get a replacement too. I think we should not burn these bridges with top clubs.

Just bring him in and get over with it. Then we can move Hudd and get a striker with the fund. No brainer..

The bottom line is that we need more firepower in the first team that will enable us to score more goals. Defoe and Adebayor are going through a poor patch of games, and we have quality teams chasing us that have superior goal-scoring options up front at the moment. If Bale tails off his 15+ goal pace for any reason, like he has done the last two seasons (injuries, fatigue, etc), then we'll be in a world of trouble. There is no Rafa there to pick up the slack this time.

It was clear to everyone on this website in 2011 and 2012 that we needed more firepower in January to consolidate our position in the league. We rolled the dice that being austere at the time would lead to bigger profits in the summer, and both times we were burned. A third successive mistake of that nature would be difficult to handle, and the blame certainly shouldn't be put on Villas Boas' shoulders.

The bigger concern for me is that failing to make Champions League will lead to not only Bale leaving, but others, too. I'd feel more assured if I know the money we get from players leaving would be re-invested in the squad, but there is no guarantee of that happening. I look at Aston Villa, for an extreme example, and see a team that was 5th a few seasons ago, loaded with young talent, and now has sold virtually everyone and is looking at relegation.

With all that said, I support looking for value in the transfer market. Willian for 25 million pounds is not value. M'villa and Negredo for under 20 million pounds, is.

As for Heung Min Son, I don't think he is what we need at the moment. I watch a lot of Asian football, and while he is talented and crafty, he is in no way ready for the Premier League physically or mentally, in my opinion. It will take him a lot of time to settle; time we can't necessarily afford with a serious race for 4th place in the works. Negredo really needs to be our #1 target. He's just the type of cultured striker that we have needed the last two winters.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't MHS play in Germany?

So I've just read the itk, basically our club is f@cked and over the next couple of years we will lose all our good players and are doomed for failure......

GREAT! Positive stuff!

I'm not sure you read what I wrote. I'm not arguing that we will have to pay wages, but that the fee we want to pay will be offset by him being off Schalke's wage bill, thus we feel it should be a token amount, whereas they're searcching for a fee in the millions.

Also- bring in a striker with the fund from Hudd? How much do you envisage we sell him for, and who do we buy for that little?

I'm not as pessimistic, but after reading the RO thread, I almost want to conclude the same. I have always believed Levy to hold a vision for the future of the club, being ready to take us to the next level and all. I felt justified in this belief, even though believing in such with a pinch of salt. As of now, that salt is about to be thrown over my shoulder for luck. Hopefully all works out well.... back to the whiskey I suppose. Here's to good fortune tomorrow :smug:

Bit early for wrist slashing IMO. When did Jasper last get something right ? When did he last predict something that actually happened ?

with Sandro injury, i don't think Moutinho or even Holtby are the answer now. I don't mind getting one of them now, but priority must be DM & Wing/striker as we can't count on Parker, Bale, Lennon, and only 2 strikers.

Livermore, Huddlestone & Dempsey (as striker) all are not good enough. We lost vital points vs WBA Norwich & Wigan at home with them.

The offset amount is 700k EUR..... So 700k is more important than UCL place? I don't advocate spending big, but this deal is a steal assuming if we still need to loan.

Not sure how much we can sell hudd.... 5m? Then again there is also the element of hudd wages off our books. I really don't see why this is such a huge concern. If we continue with such practice, we probably won't get Holtby on the last day.

Sounds very down to earth and accurate this time though!

Wow, just caught up on all the Jasper stuff. An experience not dissimilar to being slapped repeatedly in the face with a cold dead fish. Where's the razorblades :sour:

Hudd will want money to go so that will reduce the value of his transfer fee. As only Fulham seem to be really interested, and bearing in mind he failed his medical at Stoke, you have to wonder if Fulham will want to pay as much as five million pounds.

I've been wanting lots of ITK for ages now and even when we get one post I still want the next bit of ITK straight away after.

However, after last night I think that no news is good news! No more ITK please. ;o)

Agree... But better to move him and upgrade with Holtby.

I also want people to know Schalke has money which is no Seville and they still are in UCL and is trying to stamp their slides in the league. It's a matter who needs who more....

Lets not be pound foolish is all I am saying.

What kind of message does it send out to holtby if we are negotiating over a speculated couple of hundred thousand GBP for the services of the player early, hardly a shot in the arm for the lad

JJ kind of confirmed this too:

I just told exactly what was happening and you say its negative, how negative? This is why i stop posting as people just want good news all the time and think i have an agenda and i can reassure you that i dont, not anti avb or anti Levy just telling you how it is.
By the way we have done transfers by committee at spurs for the last 5 years or so.
Jaspers info had to come out eventually.

We'll beat United today and everyone will want a bukkake party with Levy again.

For what it's worth I've never liked or trusted the ****.

His club have to agree and identify a replacement. Whether they have already done that in the loan signing, or need to find someone new, the money that we value his contract at and the price of a replacement are going to be different. It is no reflection of Holtby or how much Spurs want him.

His contract was up in the summer, that doesn't mean he is worth nothing. I bet his agent was told by both clubs that Schalke will want a replacement and if he is to move earlier than previously agreed then this is a hurdle to overcome. He set up 2 and scored 1 on Friday, doubt it matters one bit to him.
