Agree. Unless Levy can structure a deal which helps to spread the outlay, or a slight compromise can be found. Thing is Benteke has said he wants to come to us. Of course that could change, just think it adds another dimension to this.

Was this information released via the agent? Seems to be widely reported but i'm not sure where it's come from?

Yup 25m paid over say 5 or 6 years would be acceptable no? Would in effect cost us 18-20m and we would most likely sell the player before having to pay that amount anyway.

Just a thought, with us targeting Belgians, Brazilians and Croats and looking to sell the deadwood - our home grown quota seems to be diminishing, although not to the point where it's a problem yet.

However, if we do the deal for Halilovic and Jedvaj now, will they count as home grown when they come?

So based on some of the ITK we have had, if we end up with 3 belgians, 3 brazilians and 3 croatians, with Chadli as our new wide forward, potentially Damaio as our new CF, and a trio of Croatians landing in staggered times, Rebic now, Jedvaj in January and Hallilovic next summer, I'd be a happy little Spurs fan.
If we could add an up and coming utility Def/Mid like Emre Can, all the better.
May be a bit too much to hope.

As long as we don't forget the development of young English players.

As much as I love the sound of all the players we are going after, I would still very much like to see some English players come through the ranks. Wasn't this what the training facilities are for ?

Thanks Andre...

That is the slim ray of hope that we can cling to but the apparent stubborness of Villa on price may be our downfall as we will have a price in mind and be pretty stubborn ourselves. I reckon we'd go to £17m as after all it is the magic number, With a few add ons we might get to a deal but I'm not going to hold my breath on this one.

Either way, whether we end up managing to push Villa around on the last day or they hold out and don't sell, we need another option.

Obviously the club and Franco will be looking at other possibilities but the lack of ITK on anything other than Villa and Benteke this summer is worrying.

Why couldn't Villa have just come to us, the silly-bearded tosser

Liverpool spend cash they don't have like there's no tomorrow. They will go even more mental when they sell Suarez. I can see them over paying for Benteke.

Thing is I don't. I think with their change of ownership and management will come a change of attitude. I've heard that they will flood with 7/8/9m players but not really go mad. Wages are to be kept to a manageable level too. There's only going to be a few mad clubs that will pay more than us in wages. United, City and Chelsea here and probably the gooners too, but I think even they will have a change of direction.

I can't believe we've gone from being 'close' to getting Villa, to being depressed about not paying £25m for a possible one-season wonder like Benteke.

I really hope we have other targets as I can see this becoming our next Bent/Bentley money burning exercise.

It's a risk, but he could be the next big thing.

Bent we got our money back, so only wages were lost.

Yep, Bent was our top scorer in 08-09 and moved him on for a massive transfer fee. Where's the money burning there?

I do sometimes think Bent gets a tough rep regarding his time with us. He scored at about 1 in 3, and considering Harry repeatedly used him as a sub I think he did pretty well. He suffered from not fitting too well with our system at the time, and from not getting on well with Harry, which we all know is fatal.

At the end of the day he scored at a reasonable rate, on restricted appearances, and we ended up making our money back on him. He's not the unmitigated disaster some people seem to think he was.

Liverpool will only be in a position to buy Benteke if Suarez goes but he is said not to be keen.

We are assuming Chelsea want him but with Torres, Ba and Lukaku at the club Mourinho may not.

Arsenal are still chasing Huguain, Rooney and Suarez.

All true, and obviously if we are the only team interested then that puts us in a much stronger position.

As it is though, it appears that other teams are interested, and they are teams with a lot of disposable income which puts us at the bottom of the pile as far as Villa are concerned.

Obviously it's complete personal conjecture, but I'd be very surprised if Levy paid much more than 15m for Benteke (with various add-ons perhaps), and that looks a long way from Villa's valuation.

fir every bent/bentley, we have a modric, bebertov, carrick, Keane to Liverpool. You win some and lose some, in levy's case he has win alot in that respect. Even gio, he made a profit on that sale, God knows how!
