Let's put aside our doubts, and instead positively picture a team next year that looks a little something like this:

Lloris
Walker - Kaboul - Verts - BAE
Sandro - Paulihno - Dembele
Bale - Soldado - Chadli

Ah, hell yea! We are gonna fuck some bitches up, yo!!!

Replace BAE with Coentrao. IMO would be strong enough to challenge for the title if players remained fit. However I don't think this is the right place to discuss our team line-up

People need to look at the bigger picture if the news about Bale becoming captain is correct.

If we have a great season and qualify for the Champions League and add more quality to the squad so that we realistic have a chance of winning it the season after. I'm sure that Bale will find the possibility of holding up the trophy with us harder to turn his back on.

I for one think it is a genius move. All those moaning about the treatment of Dawson just remember that he would not be in our best team and all those last ditch tackles are mainly caused by his own lack of anticipation and pace.

Team formations and discussions about Twitter? I fear for your rectums....

Bale could be about to sign a new deal and become our captain. Hopefully that will be enough for him to be on all of the BT adverts again

Hopefully Bale does become Captain. Although Dawson is a likeable character he shouldn't be a nailed on frist team starter as both Vertonghen and Kaboul are better players.

Does being captain of the team really matter anymore? Did it used to matter?

Based on the fact John Terry captains Chelsea it really does not matter at all. United have not had a proper captain in the traditional sense since Keane, Arsenals changes every year and city initially made Carlos 'Cannot speak a word of english despite living here for 7 years' Tevez captain.

Every time there's itk from ryantegan for some reason I always visualise him giving it through the window of a range rover. Maybe i should lay off the jazz fags

I also miss the 'Arry player rating scale and really think AVB could learn from 'Arry in this department. Top player, top top player and triffic lad is so much more informative than a player of good dimension :)

A few people seem to be suggesting that making Bale captain was either something he demanded or something we would use to sway him into not leaving. Does anyone really think that the sticking point in getting Bale to sign a new contract was Bale asking to be made Club Captain? That he showed up at the Lane and said, "alright Daniel, I'll accept that you aren't ready to sell me to Madrid but only if I get to be the club captain!" Or that it would have any meaning to him at all unless he had already decided to stay?

If this is true, its probably something we offered him/asked him to do for a couple reasons: 1. He's BFFs with AVB, maybe Andre even asked for him to be club captain. 2. He is absolutely the face of Tottenham at the moment especially outside of the UK and part of the reasoning for keeping him another year would be milking Bale's popularity for the growth of the club. 3. The club captain must represent the players to the media and in public relations, so this will give him a taste of the spotlight that he seems to crave and at the same time serve as a constant reminder to people that one of the best players in the world is SPURS. 4. He is easily our best player, seems to be a smart lad, and always gives 100% on the pitch. I'm sure the players look up to him and if they and AVB are ok with him being captain, who are we to whine about it.

I feel Bale is definitely not off this season...Levy is too shrewd not to have an auction and let PSG Monaco into the process!
Manu made a limp enquiry, but other than that there has been no real opposition to the Madrid bid.
Levy may even flirt with Man C and Chelsea to up the tempo...
They have much more dough than RM, but not a whimper...
Considering levy has just gone off to USA I reckon he must feel that he has the bale situation under control...If and it is unlikely that means he is thinking of selling Bale, he is pretty cool in the face of a world record transfer....
Imagine the scenario
Joe Lewis "Daniel we just got a world record bid for GB... are you keeping him or selling?"
DL " Uncle Joe you know I'm off to Florida today taking the missus and Kids to disney.....till the end August, I booked this month off a year ago...I get back late on the 1st Sept, I got plenty of time to decide last day of the window... Let everyone sweat ..."

When Andre made Lennon captain one time last season I interpreted it as him trying to empower him by giving him a responsibility that he had previously avoided or not been interested in. I don't think Lennon will ever have the character to grow into such a role and he didn't particularly show any adeptness it. That idea failed, but it showed insight into Andre's mentoring of the group.

Making Bale captain, from Andre's perspective, could be similar. Bale, long noted as a quiet, modest lad could benefit from being given an endorsement such as being made captain. He's brilliant now, but with some added confidence brought through responsibility could become even better. The obvious example is Beckham, who had a similar personality but thrived on being made captain for England & became a team leader. He was 25.

Bale at 24, is moving into that same stage of his career. It could be the making of him.

I need LLM to make a fleeting visit, just to cradle me and say "shhh shhh, there there, it will be ok, Bale is staying, don't listen to the monsters on the Internet. He loves us, and more importantly you. Now sleep well my prince for you will need the energy for tomorrow's ITK, where it all starts again"

He then kisses me on my forehead, says "I'll leave your lamp on" and just as he goes out of my bedroom he turns once more and says "I'm only in the next room if you need me"

I will then go to sleep with a calmness in my heart and warm fuzzy feeling in my belly.

I'd suggest being made club captain comes within the wider scenario of the future plans for the club where it wants to go, what it wants to achieve, in effect the true magnitude of our ambition.
I would further suggest all of this would have been laid out for him with the tag line, and we want you to be our captain and lead this magnificant new saga in the history of Tottenham Hotspur.
