Fair enough mate. If we sign him then hopefully he'll work out. It just seems to me another buy that doesn't cure our need for guile and goals.

Holtby would definitely be the answer for more guile in the final third mate. I totally agree, it needs addressing but IMO we need cover for Dembele/Parker as well.

Ah ok, that is interesting then. I hadn't considered him as a backup for Dembele. Interesting shout, so we're talking about maybe Parker holding and Diame carrying and going box to box?

Yeah, I think he could realistically do that. He played a similar role against QPR yesterday and gave them absolute fits in defense. Played some beautiful balls in that no one latched on to.

He had a more box-to-box role against Wigan and was quite the sight actually.

He's a well-rounded midfielder, and he did have quite a shot on him at Wigan.

Yeah very true, I actually temporarily forgot about Holtby. Do you know if he could play CM in a 4-4-2 if,say, Dembele was injured?

are we not forgetting that we appear to have some useful forwards with U21 and NextGen team - plus of course Kane out on loan. (and i know there are lots of reservations about him).
Surely we should be hoping that as Defoe and Ade come to the end of their best years with us in the next two years or so, then these youngsters should have gained enough experience to step in......

I'm sure it's what DL would want otherwise whats the point of the academy

Re forwards who are possibilities in u 21's (NExtGen are 18 so another couple of seasons away imo) we have :

Jonathan Obika - age 22. looked good at League 1, but after that flailed around for a season but since looked good this season. But certainly one to try from the bench, may or may not make it.
Harry Kane - On loan at Norwich, made 2 or 3 appearances so far.Maybe see how he does next pre-season
Cameron Lancaster - Been out iafter an op all this season. One cameo in PL so lacks experience. Maybe see in next pre-season or a coupole of times from bench this season.

After that :
Souleymane Coulibaly - Still learning his trade. With Obika's form struggling for time with Spurs u 21's
Shaq Coulthirst - Current NextGen striker looking very good, but at 18 a long wayt to go

We are very short of strikers to be considered for first team.

(BUt AM's aplenty)

Yeah I'm sure he could, he's pretty versatile but best in the attacking midfield role.

Bit of light relief - Liverpool are complaining again about their scouting system being trolled by other clubs (after the Sneijder signing this evening), but consoilling themslves by talking of their next big siging !

Do Galatasaray not have scouts, just stealing our players, at least we're still getting Villa
They are buying Aston Villa?? Well the upside is, it will still work.out cheaper than 35m Andy Carroll.

Cool, Dembele's ball carrying and driving runs were missed when he was injured.

If we are in the market for this sort of player though then I'm a huge fan of M'Villa. He is an absolute beast with incredible potential and I think he'll be a massive hit in the Prem.

Still secretly hoping Moutinho's name remains top of the list though!! :)

Did anyone worry when Thudd came on today?

I did. If you frame it as that, it could have been Diame coming on or Parker coming on for Diame today then it suddenly looks like a better idea.
With all the will in the world, we can't just rely on Sandro recovering and getting back to his best, it could be a hell of a long way off. Ironically, Thudd is exactly an example of how major injuries can reduce a player's effectiveness. It saddens me cos i've always liked him but we need to sign a solid midfielder to take Thudd's slot in the squad.

Agree totally, with a heavy heart Thudd just isn't good enough at present and hasn't been since coming back from injury. Its a real shame as he was doing so well and I've got a soft sport for him. If the supposed interest in him is true then selling him for circa £6m (I believe this was the figure being banded around) and bring in Diame for £3.5m then we have upgraded the squad and made a profit. Now if that isn't Levyesque I don't know what is!
