People keep saying "knows the PL" but he's a keeper, what difference does it REALLY make?
Yeah would be more of an issue in the lower leagues or the PL 10-20 years ago when teams like Stoke would bully the shit out of keepers (e.g. Gomes).

Nowadays I don't think there's really that much difference for keepers tbh.

It’s good that we moved on quickly but also, Raya is so good, HG and knows the PL. I think we’ve missed out on a real player there. I hope Vicario turns out to be an excellent buy but I have to be honest, I’m gutted we didn’t get Raya.

But yes, if the main reason we did this is because we can up our bid for Maddison or someone else we previously couldn’t afford then I’m good with it. I just reeeeally wanted Raya.
But we didn’t miss out, did we? We chose to go for a different Player. If any of this is true, of course.

He’ll have played against the majority of forwards already. He’s already adapted to the weather and culture. He has experience of playing at almost all of the stadiums. He knows the pace of the game etc. All these sort of things added up probably does make a difference. I know he’s a keeper but as we know, it’s not just about saving shots nowadays.

It doesn’t mean Vicario will be rubbish, he may well storm it (fingers crossed!) but it does mean Raya has a kind of head-start.

From what I’ve read, Vicario seems a great buy for £19M, I just personally wanted Raya.

Depends how you look at it. If we wanted him but refused to pay £40M then we have still missed out. If Postecoglou didn’t fancy him then I guess we didn’t miss out, but to agree personal terms suggests he did want him.

But yeah it depends on what actually played out.

"Hopefully we'll get him in the next window then when he's free". Daniel Levy's thinking. :)

Been nice to see this thread coming up in bold again recently, indicating that there’s obviously been some new exciting ITK posted..

..Shame then that when you open it it’s full of completely irrelevant garbage!

Set a precedent and do your stuff, @Archibald&Crooks!

If the Romano stuff is true, looks like we had a chat about Raya, agreed on what we could but with no movement we’ve gone to plan B. The nice thing about that is it’s happened quite quickly. Fingers crossed we can keep doing business decisively, shows some clear direction to our strategy for a change!
Leicester please take note
😁

A big positive of what appears to be happening is that we are planning on going big on one or two signings. The reluctance to budge for Raya gives us £20m to put towards possibly Maddison. I remember ITks (possibly @Trix) saying in previous windows that signing players is fluid and that money saved on one signing can bring another into play and vice versa.

It's nice that our plan B appears to be rather good......and we have moved quickly to secure him. I feel a bit for Raya, but then I don't think he'll have any trouble finding a new club in 6 or 12 months time.
That’s the dangerous game Brentford appear to have played. Hold out hard for inflated price with the risk that alienate player who then runs down contract and Brentford get squat. Still there’s Chelsea out there that could throw silly money at them perhaps.

the personal terms thing is much of nothing really - players are touted around and agreeing terms is reasonably straightforward getting them for the right price is the difficult part - Raya who a couple of years ago couldn't get in the Blackburn side looks a decent keeper but not that good we should be losing sleep over him

Great news we've moved early onto another target. Definitely a big game of poker Brentford are playing given they've already signed Raya's replacement.

If we can have most of our business done before preseason that would be a real positive to give Ange and the new coaches etc a time to gel/get to know the players and for everyone to get up to speed with his style given it'll be a big culture shift from the last 3 managers.

Prof on COYS:

Not only working on gk and mid. Initial list of cb targets cut down to those approved by Ange. Two approaches made so far - one young and promising, the other a little older and more experienced. If they seem doable we’ll negotiate. If not we’ll move on. Would like 3 new defenders for the squad - number depends on outgoings. Ange bullish he can coach up some of our youngsters and a few of our under performers which is music to the boss’s ears. Lol

Scott Munn?

But, I thought he has not really started yet - I guess he can pull some strings behind the scenes.

Yeah, this seems to be the guess on COYS. It's been mentioned that he's been working unofficially pretty much since he was announced
