Fat F’ng fingers Trix ?
Hercules fat fingers see far more action than Daniel Levy's wallet!

I really hope @Trix that as your latest info suggests the club have a plan with our strikers targets but are waiting for the right moment to strike, the window so far has been strong but panic is starting to set-in and watching the AON documentary doesn't fill us with more confidence that we actually have a coherent plan in the tw.

However deals for many other clubs are starting to move now and we know its a domino effect so hopefully as Trix says we just need other clubs to line-up their replacements and then we can pull the trigger on our preferred striker target but we really need them in sooner rather than later and if we end up with no striker at all again then Levy and Hitchen's head will be well and truly on the block but as Jose said at HT vs Olympiakas... "calm"..."calm"... long way to go yet.

Thanks @Trix . Your insight is always appreciated and it makes sense and sounds like a reasonable approach with a big if and only if we do pick up someone with quality and without suffering a key injury. Even though the run of fixtures has some weak links in it, we don't have much room to drop many points.

I have to add that it is a bit of a downer when you see @Hercules as the newest post in the ITK section to which you hurriedly click over just to see that it is another fat fingers apology. Perhaps you could make up for that disappointment with some additional insight! Just kidding and as always, thanks to the ITKers and the Mods. You may ruin our collective productivity in here but it's worth it.

Dragon:

As the press are now reporting villa are outbidding us on Watkins , we are still talking to brentford but I don’t see us paying 30 million for back up

Benham has pulled off a masterstroke. Watkins is good but £30m good? I get us saying no thanks (taking back my must signing comment)

Would rather wait and get the best possible option, than be lumbered with some quick fix, premier league journeyman because it can be done in the next ten minutes.

seems fair except we are not looking at anything other than journeymen players these days

Dragon having a bit of a mare:

still talks ongoing re Watkins but we won't go to 28 plus add ons

two strikers both 40 million , both fit our profile and Jose likes both one is Jimenez ( I have to do a u turn re previous posts as am now told its possible ) and the other is the one I'm referring to who is much younger early 20s .

Jimenez is 29 but other one has no pl experience

Jimenez is probably exactly what Jose is looking for but feels like a deal we would never do due to his age. If we think this mystery younger striker is the answer I hope the inflated price for Watkins suddenly makes that seem a lot more viable to us and we push for it.

Can't really see Wolves selling us another player this window, especially for anything less than top dollar now that the teams who played in Europe last year (including us) are being ordered to return some of the money they made.

Problem is when you're not willing to pay over the odds(and we are not), you often have to wait until the selling team has geared up it's replacements before they will let the player go.

Hallelujah

I think it's interesting that people are also reacting to a lack of news, but many of our best signings have been where there is little news until a few days before.

I think that one angle people don't always consider is that we have an ethos and a reputation when it comes to buying and (particularly) selling players. If we say that a price is a price, then that is the price. In individual deals it can hurt ('why not just spend the extra couple of million?', 'We need him out, let's just accept less than he's worth to shift him') but in the long run it means clubs don't try to rip us off.

Wolves transfer policy seems fairly obvious, which would indicate that for the 'right' fee Jimenez would be allowed to leave (and a young Portuguese player on the agents books no doubt recruited in his place). Of course whether the 'right' fee for Wolves is in line with what Levy thinks is another matter, but it's not massively far fetched to think it's possible. It might be that £40m for the very much proven and absolutely architype Mourinho striker Jimenez, even at 29 rs old, is seen as a better value deal than £30m+ on an unproven Championship player who isn't a typical Mourinho forward (even though i liked Watkins). Time will tell.

it seems that what we think is over the odds for a striker isn’t shared by many other football clubs.

Oh and if we sign two strikers I’ll sell a kidney.......

Hope we don’t run Kane into the ground in the first few weeks of the season.

Appreciate the info but wolves fans would burn down their stadium if they sold jimenez to anyone, let alone a challenger for the top 6.

Depends, doesn't it? Different markets. Lower table teams can only attract a certain calibre of player - their market is arguably smaller, so when they are given their £100m at the end of the season, they're going to risk inflating the market for the Wilsons and Watkins players.

They can't necessarily go after your Haaland type players - even though they are/were much cheaper - because they don't want to join. Villa and Newcastle have no chance of your Costa/Cavani type players, regardless of how cheap they are, so hence they have to fight amongst themselves. That ends up in a different category of valuation.
