It really surprises me that we have not made a proper bid for Suarez then. No way would he be on anything like £100k a week at Ajax, maybe even a quarter of that.

Therein appears to be the problem. I'll be very surprised if we get a top striker now. The best bets would be Forlan and Fabiano due to their age they may compromise wages for a sign on fee or longer deal - perhaps?

One of the posters on that Ajax forum from a week or two ago said Suarez was on £30,000 per week.

clever more like...a clear message to the chairman regarding top players and wages. If we dont finish top 4 not pushing the boat out more with wages will be one of the main reasons cited by fans. Harry is just planting the seeds.

That said, a week or two ago Harry couldn't stop talking about our title challenge - even as outsiders.

With a wage budget that's half our rivals we're competing with a massive handicap and our expectation in the league and transfer market should reflect this.

Harry's point was that the players he wants to buy to take us to that next level are on silly wages that are beyond what we are prepared to pay.

I'm not sure why we aren't looking more to promising upcoming players though, another Berbatov style signing would have a good chance of working as well for us as any of the big 4 we've been linked to.

This was my first thought...but isn't it supposed to be Levy who is like a kid in a sweet shop and willing to splash the cash? The plot thickens...

I think you've got the wrong Levy, our one is the chap stealing candy from the kids...
