Regarding Carvalho, I just don't get why we would want him in as a player. If we want a veteran defender around the place then we might as well hold onto Gallas no? That's not to mention that Ledley will be on coaching duties. Feels like Carvalho would be just another body getting in the way of Caulker's game time (certainly if Daws doesn't leave).

I know what you mean but this move, if accurate, will of been thought about - not just off the cuff. Carvalho could be more accepting in terms of what his role may be than say Gallas, who might not want anything other than starting most weeks. Also his relationship with AVB could be beneficial from other points of view and we could see him starting alongside Caulker in the EL etc....a good blend of experience and promising talent, brillant to learn off etc....

But I suspect its having a player in who's vastly experienced who the other players will respect tremendously, and at the same time has a close relationship with AVB...ie no hiccups with senior pros like at Chelsea....keeps the dressing room in order, no divisions etc...an influential and highly regarded player the manager can trust.

Makes sense.

It used to be so easy for me: just get my own surname on it. It was great. No thought needed. Didn't look too geeky.
Not any more.
Now I have to think carefully.
I can't wear my old shirts.
My surname is Campbell.

You must have been happy when we signed (well..loaned) Fraizer Campbell.

On second thoughts....

Never had a name on my shirt til last year and got VDV...my 5 year old loves Luca but told her she can't have his name on her shirt...so surname is a good option ...mind you Bale would be fucking cheaper

First time you hear them speak, you can tell that Wenger and Mourinho are both highly articulate, intellectuals in football terms, with a strong footballing "philosophy". A model that AVB clearly aspires to.

Ferguson is a monster Alpha Dog personality (but not that astute tactically hence his number twos). I've never been impressed when I've heard Freund interviewed. Sherwood on the other hand does come over pretty well, and is clearly a driven character - like Mourinho, Ferguson and Arsewipe.

Anyway, if Freund is AVB's choice, so be it, and his passion for Spurs is a good thing. As long as he's not in charge of shooting practice.....

As for the other ITK, I wonder what the price is for Moutinho, and how much of any Modric fee it'll eat up.

Freund has a great reputation for coaching German youngsters with the national team, Germany are probably the most exciting team in Europe if not the world right now and have a production line of youngsters in the team, no doubt many of them coached by Freund

Look at the great players of the last couple of decades, Bryan Robson, Roy Keane, Tony Adams, Kevin Keegan, Graeme Souness to name but a few, I wouldnt even hire any of them to run my bath let alone football club yet they were all incredible players, just because Freund was an average player doesn't mean he won't be a good coach

But he's no. 2....what about Pat Rice at Arsenal all those years for example? Seems like the perfect comparison to me. AVB the intelligent, deep thinking gaffer who the players deeply respect and Freund the 'fan' and enthusiast who gees the players up and keeps training interesting and fun and is the players friend managing to work the bollocks out of them at the same time.

Sounds like Wenger and Rice to me...

Last season, with Dawson out, Gallas and King made up a CB between them. That's not going to happen next season; barring a mega-injury crisis, Gallas isn't going to get a look-in—indeed, he'll probably be lucky to get a place on the bench. It's likely to be his last season at the top level, and if I were him I'd want to play as much of it as possible. For several reasons, Carvalho makes rather better sense.

Yeah definitely, if Gallas has the slightest desire to make the most out of his last season (most likely) he'll want to be play elsewhere.

I love the way POTL now posts in plain English again. Seems like he doesn't like jj beating him at this itk game.

When it was just him he did go off the rails a bit

Progress in motion. Hold caution on the responses and getting too excited but this move is underway.

That's plain English? :D

Caution, caution, caution....His goal record is about as good as Modric's if I remember correctly....
Well yeah we still desperately need a striker, but if he can be a genius midfield maestro role and set them up for Leandro/Dzagoev/Remy/Messi then I won't mind if he doesn't net a single time himself!

We've been offered him. Does that mean we want him!?

André Schürrle

Good night.

Following the arrival of AVB, is this part of Levy's policy to recruit as many people called Andre as possible?

Leading me to conclude we will sign some, if not all of the following: Andre Santos, Andriy Schevchenko, Andre Ayew, Peter Andre, Andre the Giant and Andre 3000.

Compared to all 'the toothpaste squawks at minnows on the blue dildo and yellow parsnips' stuff from before, it's clear as day.

Having said that, POTL does seem to know a good deal so I'm grateful for the squawking toothpaste.
