Not being difficult but is there any evidence of it being a ‘depressed market’? People keep saying it but I’m not seeing any evidence of it being the case. What deals have there been that reflect this?

There haven’t been many deals, so that’s one indicator.

Southampton losing Ings and Vestergaard for a combined £42m when they supposedly originally wanted £50m just for Ings is another.

It’s really no secret that clubs are short of cash after 18 months of empty stadiums. To even suggest that might not be the case is ridiculous.

Wasn’t there ITK where we had given City a deadline of Friday? If that’s true, I guess it if Kane makes the squad for Sunday, he’ll remain our player for the season, if he’s not selected, then talks with city are progressing in a direction where both parties are confident of a deal.

I just want this over. The game against City was really positive and this rubbish is dragging down morale of the fans

Your two examples are players with a year left on their contract who went for expected prices
People expecting it to be a depressed market may be why clubs are struggling to complete deals
I’m not saying it shouldn’t be a depressed market - I am saying most clubs don’t seem to be buying/selling like it is

My guess is that those clubs who are desperate for cash still have time to push for very high prices, but that they eventually may be forced to accept lower prices towards the end of the window (i.e. if they need that sale in order to survive).

It will be interesting what occurs as we stumble into the last week of the window. At the moment there isn't much evidence that demonstrates clubs are willing to let star assets leave cheaply. Maybe if they are unable to shift the preffered players we may see more flexibility on price as deadlines start to close in.

All we can hope is that we're prepared to pounce should that be the case.

Completely agree. My point was more we haven’t seen it so far. Sure Paratici will have an idea as to what clubs are struggling. I get the sense Damsgaard may be one of those - they supposedly wanted 40 million straight after the Euros but supposedly they are short of money. Interesting to see if clubs are just hoping the full stadiums will save them this year.

pointless what ITK said X-days ago. It’s an evolving situation. Choose to believe, choose to ignore or choose as gossip.

I firmly believe we “sold” him ages ago and this is all a pantomime until we land our targets.

The deeply unedifying display in the Telegraph wouldn't have been necessary if this was already done.

You could rattle off most of the deals - Daka to Leicester for something like £24m, Messi not staying at Barca, many of Barca’s deals being frees, Inter winning Seire A then selling their star Striker, there are plenty of examples.

Yep.

It's simple really teams trying to maximise their outgoings right now, but they know they have to sell. None of these players that are being over valued have moved lots of bargains though have gone through. Lets see what the prices are of some of these players are next week once the desperation starts to set in.

It's going to be really interesting if we sell some of the fringe players for lower prices than what we would have done before our new DOF joined.
Balancing the books or keeping to a budget isn;t DL's task this year- this is going to be a real roller-coaster- buckle in

I’m assuming Fabio is well versed in the Levy speciality of brinkmanship come deadline day.

DL on the last day isn't the real norm- let's hope FP's plate spinning comes off in our favour and not just a mess on the floor

One (actually likely both) of Herc and Trix did say that the last week would be the week for us, along with the rest of the Prem.

I, an impatient twat like the rest of you, still obsessively load up this forum at 5am here just in case something exciting happened while I was sleeping.

SSN just had a Portuguese corespondent saying palhinha from Lisbon might be one to watch for us.

Would be a great signing if we can get it done. Haven't seen TOO much of him but he fits our profile of one that can grow in value and show potential, is a huge body, and gives me a young Matic vibes.

Wonder what reporter it was?

Tomiyausu going quiet and Milenkovic getting noisy is one that concerns me. I'd rather have the former but we've not heard much in the last two days.

Southampton mortgaged their stadium to a US Hedge Fund at a 9% interest rate. Inter’s owner had his share frozen by a Chinese court for non payment of debt. All clubs are in a difficult period but some clubs (ie ones with significant and/or expensive debts) are worse than others
