This link feels more like Soton or an agent trying to create a more competitive market, than Paratici suddenly taking a look.

I agree. Like I said I like him, I just think the financials might be a bit too rich. He's basically their talisman and fan favourite now plus he is home grown and a source of a lot of their goals. Not going to be cheap is he.

I imagine they’d be looking in the region of £30-40m for him?

If that’s the case, we could likely make a big chunk of that up with players - Winks, Sanchez, Sissoko, Dier, CCV are the ones who spring to mind.

Be a lot more than that imo.

Exactly Citeh's "thought" process. We quite rightly seem to be saying no we don't want any of the players they offer, and Soton would be entirely reasonable to say no thanks its cash or nothing (and I can't imagine many of those players listed would be particularly keen on a relegation battle).

So rather than pony-up the cash, we’ll try to offload a bunch of players we don’t want anymore, in exchange for their talisman and fan favourite - who they don’t want to sell?

This is ringing a bell… ?

Now you're suggesting we do what citeh are doing to us.

If the below is true, we must be in the market for a new keeper! (No whiteman thread I could see so adding it in here)

Came up on my phone's news feed but couldn't get a link from it.

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Alife Whiteman will reportedly depart north London to join top-flight Swedish side Degerfors IF.

According to Fotboll Direkt, the 22-year-old shot-stopper will join the Allsvenskan side to replace outgoing goalkeeper Ismael Diawara.

However, as per the report, it’s not yet known if Whiteman’s move to Degerfors will be a loan transfer of a permanent switch. After all, the Spurs academy graduate has played just one professional game in his senior career.

Ouch, I was thinking £25m would be decent, anything over £35m is a no from me
It's not about what we think he's worth, it's about what he's worth to his club. Same as Kane, where some Man City fans think that at his age and his glass ankles, he's not worth the fee we want for him.

JWP is a solid player and a good pro, but take away the free kicks and is he of the right calibre for a team with CL ambitions?

I get that 100%, no problem with Southampton valuing him at £40m, just don’t think we should go there for that money

You could ask the same about Milner and the answer is yes. You need solid and dependable pros at points.

It does feel like agent talk though and as Trix says, they would surely want a lot for him given his stature and importance to the club

I think they would want more than that to be fair, but i think we could do better at that price. Good player but would he really be a game changer for us, don't we have thee or four players at his level of talent?

I mean, I don’t do the club’s transfer dealings so I can’t comment on what “we will do”.

I’m saying that’s presumably an option. I’d have assumed the caveat of “if they were interested in those players and said players wanted the move” was so obvious that it goes without saying.

Clearly overestimated the crowd somewhat.
