There is absolutely no justification to continually pick Buttler after this test. All it would do is prove that Root has his boy club and Buttler is a fully subscribed member of it.

The argument that Foakes has done nothing at county level is futile, too. All of these players are on a blank slate in that regard and, quite frankly, Buttler has done fuck all in any extended format of the game for a very, very long time.

Unfortunately for Foakes, if the impossible happens and Buttler is dropped, it’ll be his mate from Yorkshire who takes his place.

if you're referring to Bairstow - he's not in the squad.

Foakes is the only official back-up keeper in the squad, although Bracey is also a keeper.

He certainly relaxed. Silly **** forgot to put his bat & pad together. Pretty loose, airy fairy shot

Still a good 38. Should be good for another 12/18 months....

I suppose he should have hit it, but Atherton / Warne / Hussein said there wasn't much he could do about it. It just went straight when the spin didn't spin.

?????

Yeah he was unlucky again ffs

I forgot a couple

He played for the spin and it went straight
He played through the line and the ball moved

Only hope is that Riswan has been so fantastic and shown Buttler up so much behind the stumps that they finally give in and play their best keeper as keeper!!

Yeah, you're probably right. :D

Bit of a brontosaurus team though; thin at the top, fat in the middle (Root, Stokes, Pope), and a very long tail.

odd to think that we’re 100 odd behind on ffirst innings, and i’m sat here thinking ‘not bad, could have a been a lot worse’ ??

shows the standards of this team at the moment.

The only thing I'll back Root on is the Archer conundrum, and it is one lets be honest. He's gone from bowling 96mph to 86mph and basically said it's his choice/limit. That actually must be quite frustrating for Root.

Wood would be more reliable if he wasn't made of glass.
Going all matchday thread for a moment.......He was picked to bowl fast. Bowl fast or fuck off.

Looking forward to the day Root gives up the captaincy (they'll never sack him in a million)

If that day were today, who would you pick?

No way i'd give it to Stokes and risk losing his form/ability, not to mention doing it 'his way' against the Windies wasn't exactly a resounding endorsement of his ability to do the job.

Do we pick the best English county captain and do a Brearley? Candidates seem a bit thin on the ground to me
Broad should have had it over Root in the first place

In his interview with Michael Atherton last night Archer apparently said “It wasn’t really the conditions to bowl fast...”
