watching now, how do we make Wagner’s 75mph bouncers look like batsmen killers? Curran bowls them but gets put out the park ?

Brilliant from NZ and nothing short of capitulation from England. Some of the shot making was brain dead and only Denly can claim to have fallen to a good ball.

Also, I swear there was once a time when Broad could bat.

Its kinda what i expected. England are becoming pretty easy to read.
Anyone know why we've become so fragile at the long game? Is it white ball dominance?

I'm afraid Root seems to be going nowhere fast, there is a two year plan to "win back" the Ashes in Oz that him and Giles have already spoken about.

I'm looking forward to a time (hopefully SA) when we have Anderson, Broad and Archer as our 3 main bowlers, which might give us an actual clue about how to use Archer properly. Bowling him for the most overs in the innings is definitely not the one.

Having said that, it's a travesty that we are only doing 2 Tests against NZ and more against SA, NZ are currently ranked second and SA are gash. The pitches there will suit us more and we will end up rolling them for some low scores.

I was at Lord’s (think it was) when he made 150 or whatever it was against ladbrokes, I mean Pakistan. Went with my ex’s Indian family, who got me to smuggle about five bottles of whiskey in under my coat. Was a bit worried when they started doing pat downs but more important to impress the potential father in law...

I'd imagine shunting the county season into April, May and September in order to make way for another short format and reducing the number of games English players play for their counties isn't going to help things.

If Root wasn't the captain, he wouldn't have even been selected for the Winter tours. He's hardly making up for his poor, poor batting with inspirational leadership, so what is he doing in the squad?

He's our best batsman.

He's going through a bad patch, much like Cook did on more than one occasion, resulting in calls for him to be sacked, dropped, hung, quartered and displayed on spikes above the gates of Lord's.

All such calls were, and should now be, resisted.

I agree but Root should give up the captaincy. Smith, Williamson and Kohli have shown that it's possible to be a captain and maintain a Test average above 50 but for whatever reason Root's gone the other way. At the end of the day, England needs Root the batsman more than Root the captain.

On one hand, I agree with you. I think, at the very minimum, he should have the captaincy taken away from him for the good of his batting career. He doesn't use bowlers well, his fielding decisions are poor and his coin tossing skills are laughable. Take the captaincy away and see how it affects his batting.

On the other hand, I disagree. The last time Root was (unfairly) dropped, he came back a much, much better batsman. I'm not saying drop him and banish him to the shadow realm. I just think time away from England would do him good.

I agree, he is our best batsman but he isn't at the moment.

I've seen @Archibald&Crooks describe him as a great tosser.

English cricket is still spursy is the problem imo.

‘Oh, oh, but if I hit a six, should I curtsey toward the west or east stand..?’
