I grew up watching Atherton as too young for Boycs, favourite batsman by a country mile was Robin Smith, met him a couple of times when I was younger (before he went a bit off the rails) and love watching old youtube videos of his 100's against West Indies and Australia.
The Judge in full flow was a fantastic show.
I loved Ramprakash , but he never quite cut it, I'll never know why.

Root's captaincy being criticised again. Two wickets in the day coupled with the batting collapse means yet again a promising position is squandered and a lot of long standing issues are still lurking.

And while I'm at it, the irritating habit of having conferences and setting fields ball by ball, ODI or T20 style is not only fucking tiresome but is possibly choking the game, no wonder teams often struggle to bowl 90 overs.

his captaincy is terrible (as is his batting), but look at what he has to work with.

a non-spinning spinner, a 75mph midget left armer, gun barrell straight 80mph Broad, and now even Archer is being dragged down to 80mph.

our bowling is painfully boring and not threatening.

To be fair Kiwi pitches wont help pace mate. But Archer should be spitting down better than 80 mph all the same. Haven't seen anything of that game. Is there at least movement?

In our game the Pakistani's worked out how to dismiss Smith. Leg Spinner bowls a long hop yorker at no speed and confuses the best and he misses. Who would have thought?
As a side note Labuschagne makes his debut century with a fucking beautiful 185. Kid is all talent.

doesn’t seem to be anything in the pitch at all. although there was enough to make us lose 6 for 112 ?. but our bowling is just painful to watch. and its not like there’s a queue of really quick bowlers, or big spinners of the ball waiting in the wings.

Labuschagne looks top drawer - you could see that in the Ashes. not just technique, but temperament too.

They Missed a real chance to change him as Captain... should have done it when Silverwood came in. Root just isn’t a good captain and I don’t think he will ever be. Needs the captaincy taken off him and to be told to go back and concentrate on batting. I’d give the captaincy to Burns. He captains his county side so has experience of doing it.

obviously a massive clamour for stokes to be captain but I’d be very wary of giving it to stokes he is such an important player for us wouldn't want to effect his game by giving him the captaincy as well.

id Imagine that if we have a poor winter the pressure to change root as captain will be too much for the ECB/Silverwood to ignore.

we don’t look for captains, we look for profile. It‘s utterly idiotic given that success is what elevates profile. The people at the top have been choosing Pietersen, flintoff, Botham and anyone else completely unsuitable for it as captain for decades. They made cook and Gower captains at the other end of the reasons for unsuitability scale. Watch them gagging to give it to stokes too. its only when our most talented player happens, by sheer chance, to be a good captain that someone like Vaughan ends up in the job. The worst part of it is that cricket is the one sport where captaincy is extremely meaningful and dictates your entire strategy.

root’s position depends on him maintaining reputation within the game rather than England’s performances imo, unfortunately ecb decision making is glacial to say the least

I was dead confused why jofra was bowling 10/15 overs before the new ball.

you can say what you like about captaincy, but our batting and bowling in test cricket is complete and utter garbage. the quality of player just isn’t there, bar the odd miracle performance here and there.

pretty sure we’ll be 4 or 5 down by the end of the day.

Nearly 24 hours between the fall of de Grandhomme and Santner's wickets.

Sibley another in a long line of openers with neither the technique or mental capacity required I’m afraid. its taken NZ two innings to figure him out.

1 day to bat. Less, since 200 runs makes them bat again. 2 wickets and the night watchman gone so the majority of the batting left. Denly in form, Root due, Stokes responsible, Buttler reliable, Curran feisty.

We're gonna lose, aren't we. :(

Watched our medium pace bowlers toil till 2am. No imaginative field placings, an average spinner, and our only real quick bowler being used as a bouncer machine (he's a better bowler than that). They never looked like getting a wicket.
Then seeing us 3 down this morning was so predictable. Not sure why we bother touring now. If we cant use a duke ball, on a green surface, we may as well not bother.

Three down? I turned it off with an over to go and......oh for fucks sakes. It takes us the best part of a week to take one wicket and we lose 3 in less than a fucking session. What a bunch of useless wankers, captained by the biggest useless wanker of the lot.

Now if that doesn't set them up to get a draw nothing will.

it’ll be a glorious loss, where we bat to about 10 overs left, and they try to convince us it was a good effort and they’re fighters ?
