Watched the first session before heading to bed, good to see we ended up in a decent position by the end of the day and most of them got a score.

Hadn't seen much of Sibley before this. I'd suggest on that first outing that someone who is absolutely incapable of hitting the ball on the offside and bringing his bat through straight wont last long, but maybe he is a quick learner. We hope so.......

Anyone who said he is a carbon copy of Alistair Cook needs shooting. His bottom hand is so strong that he looks almost incapable of playing a cover drive, but like you said hopefully he either learns or he gets a bit "looser" as he gets more comfortable in the side. For the purists though, watching him and Burns as the opening partnership makes your eyes hurt.

Does anyone here see much of the quicks coming through in the counties? I watch a lot of Sussex but it’s hard to see others. I’m was wondering what those who might have seen more of them make of Matt fisher, olly stone, Jamie Overton Mahmood tongue helm (Jesus Christ tongue and helm could bring about an x rated version of the holding and Wiley thing...)

particularly interested in how quick fisher is as sounds like a promising batsman too.

there are also those two young spinner one with a double barreled name (patterson) and then Logan, and Bess of course.

he’s back at 4 which is what he wants. up to him to turn it round, no excuses now.

He's also not the first captain to go through some shit form, this time last year he probably made the best 100 of his career in Sri Lanka. To be honest I'd prefer his captaincy to get better rather than his batting currently.

What is going on with Pope's face? He's either got chicken pox and has gone mental with the calamine cream or he is one of many cricketers that hasn't heard of suncream that rubs all the way in.

Haven’t been following the build up to this series. Where’s Anderson? Injured or just rested?

Same injury that kept him out of the Ashes or a different one?

Yeah. Calf injury. He’s back bowling in the nets but wasn’t risked in this series as to be honest it’s a bit of a nothing. Doesn’t count towards the world test champs etc

Shaping up into a good test match. Still not convinced at our batting but it’s early days.
Leach 18 no - must be building up a healthy average now.

I enjoy the attrition of it mate, more just a comment on their waving bats and almost front on stances. I have absolutely no issue with being 55/0 at lunch off 30 overs.
Interesting that one Bear. The Pakistani's were a little more than that after the first session yesterday. A good solid if slow start but a foundation. They went from 75/0 to i think 125/5 in no time through stupid play. Ended up 240 at the end of day.
Australia are now 312/1 with everyone's mate DW 151 no. (which is 56 runs more than he made in 5 tests over there!) Joe Burns (who really really should have been in England for the ashes) out at 97 and the future best batsman in the world Labuschagne 55 no.
Going to be a big score as the Pakistan attack looks blunt.
And yet we pandered to the Indians last season and didn't play the traditional first test in Brisbane. Madness.

You would have enjoyed the Boycott era of the 70’s/80’s then. He was obsessed with batting and would rather die than give his wicket away.

I grew up watching Atherton as too young for Boycs, favourite batsman by a country mile was Robin Smith, met him a couple of times when I was younger (before he went a bit off the rails) and love watching old youtube videos of his 100's against West Indies and Australia.

Yep - Never forget the Atherton/Donald scrapes - they were epic.

Also Gooch's 154 not out vs Windies pace attack on a bad wicket at Headingly - lauded by some as the greatest test innings ever.
