I'm afraid Root seems to be going nowhere fast, there is a two year plan to "win back" the Ashes in Oz that him and Giles have already spoken about.

I'm looking forward to a time (hopefully SA) when we have Anderson, Broad and Archer as our 3 main bowlers, which might give us an actual clue about how to use Archer properly. Bowling him for the most overs in the innings is definitely not the one.

Having said that, it's a travesty that we are only doing 2 Tests against NZ and more against SA, NZ are currently ranked second and SA are gash. The pitches there will suit us more and we will end up rolling them for some low scores.

Good luck with that one. I'll be amazed if we don't get rinsed 4 or 5-0. Even when we had a good team we mostly get well beaten there, so this could turn very ugly. Sky might want to put a warning on before broadcast.

Yeah, if we head over there with a 38 year old Jimmy Anderson and an even slower Broad, all the while thinking Archer will bowl everyone into oblivion we might as well down tools now. Don't see anyone coming through in the bowling stakes who is going to add to that.

And after we all went wet (@SargeantMeatCurtains) about Sibley, it shows that being good in County Championship against shite bowling doesn't mean you will crack it at international level.

I blame most of this on Hameed.

If you disagree with what i've said, which isn't inaccurate in the slightest, why don't you say why, rather than post a shitty reply like that?

Oh do be quiet, assume you’ve actually watched your first game since all the nonsense in the summer?

We don’t behave like Spurs chat in here chum.

GET ROOT OUT OF THE FUCKING TEAM!!!!11111ONEONE

The irony in this post would be quite funny if you weren’t being serious.

Just pick a more worthy figure of fun. Would love to know your thoughts on Sibley seeing as you were a big advocate of his in the summer, he's got some serious flaws in his technique which I cant see how he's going to iron out against what are the best crop of bowlers in the world by definition in international cricket.

As for Root, unless he decided to jack, which I cant see, it doesn't seem to be the done thing anymore to sack the captain, not sure who the last England captain to be sacked was, Pietersen maybe? And that was because he was a ****.

Last year, when England toured Sri Lanka and West Indies, Root scored tons on each tour, then top scored for England in the world cup (going by memory so correct me if I'm wrong), then got 4 or 5 half centuries at home to Australia without converting to a ton. So regardless of whether he was captain or not, you're trying to say he would not be in the top 6 batsmen for the England test side? Cant get on board with any of that champ.

He's still our best batsmen as someone said earlier, he'd just in a bad run of form, alongside it would seem, 10 other useless individuals.

Peace.

You can't beat a good old fashioned disagreement about cricket over a glass of Pimms.

Much more civilised than the Diamond White fuelled arguments in Spurs Chat.

I find it pretty bizarre and contradictory that you are seemingly writing off Sibley when he’s played two test innings, then say Joe Root is just out of form when he very evidently has mental (in a cricket sense) issues and technical issues himself.

For the record, Sibley has faced 125 balls, which by my calculations, is 117 balls more than Jason Roy has faced in his entire test career, so I wouldn’t be so quick to write him off just yet.

I’ve since clarified my opinion on Root. He should have the captaincy taken away but then have the chance to get his batting back up to scratch. I agree. He’s comfortably our best batsman

With that said, the other players look to Root to score a chunk of our runs and he just isn’t and mentioning his runs in the CWC just strengthens my point. Without the captaincy, he scores runs.

Ok, let's be honest here, what the hell has how many balls Sibley has faced got to do with Roy's test career being a busted flush? I don't get the reference.

There's nothing contradictory at all about what I said about Root and Sibley. I'm telling you why Sibley is going to struggle to make runs at the top level, what do you think about it?

C’mon... The balls faced part was a joke pal. I thought that much was obvious.

You were contradictory though. You say Sibley won’t score runs at international level because he has technical issues. Im sure you’ve watched Root recently. He too has technical issues. Why can Root get over his issues but Sibley can’t?

I think it’s incredibly harsh to dismiss Sibley after one game. He’s earned the right to open the batting for England. The county system is shite and it probably won’t get any better with the fixture scheduling but give the guy some credit and a chance.

Root’s technical issues weren’t there in the World Cup...maybe he only gets them when he’s captain. Apart from the 4 fifties in the summer and tons last winter of course. Your point doesn’t stack there unfortunately.

Sibley has a big issue with his bottom hand. You are absolutely right he has earned the right to represent England and fair fucks to the big fella, but having watched him in that debut, he needs to fundamentally change his technique if he is going to be successful. Someone mentioned Tom Westley and it’s pretty accurate, he’s got similar flaws.

Unchanged lineup for tomorrows second test in Australia at the beautiful Adelaide oval. (yes im biased) Rain expected over the weekend so a result is probably not likely.
Good luck against those pesky Kiwi's boys.

A result will be very likely when you bowl them out for 39 with the pink ball mate! Definitely only one winner there.

If Buttler is out you have to question England's planning. Bairstow and Foakes are experienced Test keepers so why is Pope who has only kept wicket five times in his first-class career and is still finding his feet as a batsman the reserve keeper?

Sibley has a ugly technique and when players like him don’t score runs they look hopeless but he has had 1 test match and deserves a chance to prove he can score runs imo

Completely agree as I said above. Just doubting his ability to score at the highest level more than anything, I certainly wouldn’t begrudge him some runs. Hopefully we’ll bat tonight and see how he gets on.
