England survive but it could have been two down.
Nice and steady tomorrow 300 on the clock and Bob's your Uncle.

I did the BBC 'pick your combined Ashes XI' this morning and struggled to put together a decent batting line up from both sides combined. We clearly need a rebuild in our top order, but Smith has really papered over the massive cracks in their batting.

If we were to win this test and level it two. two . then the second test rain interruption is really a pain as we would have won 3/2 .
So the hysteria about how bad we are is misplaced the early batting is a massive problem but Burns is getting there .
If not for Smith we would be winning this series easily and as I say misplaced hysteria is not helping clear thinking.

I ended up with Burns & Denly opening...shocking to think 27 is the highest opening partnership of the series.
Smith, Labs and Cummins were the only Aussies I picked which I found amazing looking back after picking my XI!

I like Burns - he has a funny stance... i also think he looks like someone from the 1920s, you can imagine him in a war uniform...

Not sure which war that would be... unless he’s wearing it to a fancy dress party?

I've bought a ticket for day 5 and can hardly wait. The Oval is my home ground and I have a current membership for Surrey CCC, but as a relatively recent convert to the beautiful game, I'm afraid I've never been to an international match, let alone an Ashes Test, so Monday is going to be a completely new experience. As Jimmy G2 said, if we can manage to put on another 300 tomorrow and half of Sunday, we should stand more than a decent chance of squaring up the series.

Ricky Ponting said in the chat with Gower after the match today, the Aussies will be feeling ever so slightly nervous. They desperately wanted to take at least one wicket this evening, and nearly got it, but the umpire gave a ridiculous call of 'out' against Rory which, thankfully was appealed and reversed.

A brilliant day for Jofra Archer and for young Sam Curran too. We don't need to lose any early wickets tomorrow as we usually do, that's for sure!

If Smith's quasi-demented re-ordering of space by gestures and counting fielders is so important to him, why not go up to him after each delivery and shout false field placements in his face whilst disrupting all his pointing with our own gestures?

Yeah the weathers meant to be good as well, and considering how crappy both teams are at batting (besides the crying cheat) not sure there'll be much on day 5.

My main prediction today is that I don't think a draw is likely
and that holders of Day 5 tickets should seek a refund now.

England have got this if they bat calmly all day today
in full Test Match mode.
90 overs at 3 an over + the 70 odd we have in hand
probably equals too many for Australia to score on current form
and Smith apparently has the flu which explains his poor score yesterday
when he completely missed a ball on a paltry 80.

England all out 200. Australia win by 5 wickets.

Broken now, but a 50 opening partnership, and rattling along at nearly 3.5 an over. We could actually win this game you know.
