did people actually think Bentley was a good signing?

I think before it became clear that we were strongly in for him, nobody was that fussed.

He was a promising player and had provided some moments of genuine brilliance for Blackburn, and given his nationality and position (heir to beckham etc) he was being massively hyped up. So I think a lot of us (including me, to an extent) made a bit of a leap of faith and just hoped he'd be a great signing.

I want some apologies for being right about Benny all this time lol

Even AVB doesn't like him :p

Never, I will always love Disco Benny. He could be the shittest player ever, but he won my affection and I can't see past my biased view lol.

Likwise, the amount of negative rep I got for saying something untowards about Benny was unreal.

Oh well.

I would like to take this oppurtunity to apologise for not wanting AVB anywhere near the club when i heard we were in for him.

Oh well that's your perception, I am wrong about things for sure though, I don't have a problem with admitting that. I don't know if your nearly always right, I haven't read all your posts.

But as a matter of interest besides the Levy stuff, what else do you think I've got wrong

Ha! Gotcha! Woo.

What am I doing with my life...?

One of the few things I got right! I was lambasted when I posted this in February last year before he left Chelsea:

I think, assuming he is sacked, AVB is one of the few viable candidates. He won't have the egos of the likes of John Terry and Didier Drogba to deal with, and he may be better suited to our style of play. We've seen he's capable of very exciting things and he will have learned valuable lessons about the premier league this season. Plus, our players aren't going to be texting Mourinho...

Shameless brag on my part...

I said that if we sold Bale, it would be the end of the club as we know it and we would become a mid-table team with no Europe.

Fuck, I was wrong and extremely retarded.

I am never mentioning it again...

I think a lot of people had that opinion.

I remember everyone with any sense was strongly agreeing with the proposition that if we sold Bale we wouldn't be getting a string of 'football manager fantasy signings' like Lamela...but we were wrong, wrong wrong.

I remember that. Think I agreed with you but I was too much of a pussy to go one way or another on it myself.

Funny thing is that the second it was announced it felt right for some reason.

I was the exact opposite. When it became clear the calibre of singings we were making I actually typed "Off you fuck, Gareth" which made me many friends. :D I am a firm believer in addition by subtraction as demonstrated by the summer. Sure, we lost a bona fide, genuine worldy but by replacing him with several players of quality, even though individually not on his level yet, we are much stronger overall.

It's common fucking sense really.

I'll allow people for being sceptical that we'd actually sign these players and so were reluctant to see him go but when the Paulis and Soldados started arriving I couldn't fathom the continued hand-wringing.

That is some seriously good memory you have on you.

I think a lot of people didn't want to think about him because of the Chelsea association. If he'd had the same experience he'd had there at AC Milan or Bayern, people would have been giddy about the idea of him joining.

There were some people who had somehow gotten it into their heads that our spending in the summer wasn't predicated on the Bale departure.

Total delusion really. As soon as we signed 28-year-old Soldado for so much I knew something was up.

'But we have a billionaire owner! He's just suddenly decided to pump shit loads of money into the club, arbitrarily, this summer.'
