I'm amazed at the amount of people saying Rebrov because he was an expensive flop, but ignoring Bentley who was more expensive and a bigger flop.
Rebrov's first season yielded 9 goals in 29 appearances in the league, and a further 3 from 7 in the cups. That is a 1/3 strike rate in total in a side completely devoid of creativity, in his first season. He only ever came off the bench in his second season as Hoddle paired Ferdinand and Sheringham mostly.
Dimitar Berbatov, in his first season, scored 12 goals in the league in 33 appearances, and that in a far better and more creative side, and 4 in 8 in the cups, giving him a record of 1/2.5 domestically. His 7 in 8 really boosted his record in Europe, but Rebrov never got to play against lowly eastern european minnows who we scored highly against.
Berbatov cost half a million less than Rebrov, and his domestic strike rate (in a far better side) was barely better. Was he a flop?
