VDV playing from the right is no different to playing Luka from the left, aslong as Bale is providing the width on the other side and we have an attacking rightback then I don't see why it won't work.

Though in fairness I shudder to name one of our current strikers in the lineup, let alone two.

No Gallas. Our injured centre backs are piling up. We've just loaned out Caulker. Sandro, who can play there, is not registered for this competition. It's time for the Ajax CL winning formation I think, now that we're down to the bare bones, and I'm not keen on any of the fit out and out strikers:

Gomes
Hutton ... King ... Bassong
Huddlestone
Jenas Palacios
Lennon ... Modric ... Bale
Van der Vaart

van der Saar
Reiziger... Blind... F.De Boer
Rijkaard
Seedorf Davids
F.George ... Litmanen ... Overmars
R.De Boer

Both sides have an attacking RB, an LB who is really a CB, a ball playing DM, an all action midfielder, an energetic passing midfielder, two wingers, and effectively two attacking midfielders. I will never work but to tell you the truth, fuck it.

The keeper and back four will be decided by who's fit and available. Ahead of them I'd go:

------------Palacios---Jenas
Modric--------VDV---------Bale
----------Crouch

in european games, like for england, crouch shits the living daylights out of defenders.

j j must play , i'm azza's biggest fan....but he must be dropped for his own good.

luka must play in the centre, we always look our best with him and hudd in the middle, with bale on the wing.

charlie or hutton was a close one, charlie just feels better, they are both average at best, for different reasons.

I definitely agree with 5 of those but I'd still have hudd ahead of Palacios, and I reckon I'd swap modric and Jj because I don't like luka on the right, and I still think he and hudd looks our best central pair.

Alternatively, I'd keep the exact front six you've tried, but swap Bale and Modric.

Basically, I don't like Modric on the right wing haha.

Daily Fail is saying Ledley picked up a groin injury in training on Friday, but then the OS said he was available for Saturday... I know who I believe more, and having Ledley to partner Bassong rather than having to shuffle either Corluka or Huddlestone around would be a pretty big relief...

King, Woodgate, Gallas, Kaboul, Dawson all unavailble. Nobody can complain about a lack of quality squad depth. However, the Bassong Corluka partnership has become inevitable and fills be with fear (though they were ok away to Hull last season). Huddlestone had better sit right in front of them come what may, and Ekotto and Hutton need to be fucking solid!

Gomes
Hutton Corluka Bassong Ekotto
Huddlestone
Jenas Modric Bale
VDV
Crouch

Cudicini Palacios Kranjcar Giovani Lennon Keane Pavlyuchenko

The onle alternative I can really think of, given that this line up and bench includes every available player on our books, is:

Gomes
Hutton Corluka Bassong Bale
Jenas Huddlestone Modric
VDV
Keane Crouch

Cudicini Ekotto Palacios Kranjcar Giovani Lennon Pavlyuchenko

However, I prefer the first so that at least we have our defensively strongest left hand side out on the pitch, because with Vedran '6'4 can't jump' Corluka and Seb 'Mr Consistency' Bassong at centre back, we really need to limit crosses into our box as much as possible.

Crouch as the striker wins out over the other two mainly because, at least in the Champions League, we've seen the damage he can do. I don't think Twente's centre backs will have come up against him. We shouldn't utilise him as any kind of hold up player though, let Modric, VDV, Jenas, Bale and Hudd keep us in possession. Crouch needs to be a very tall poacher. We need to put crosses in, we need to play through balls, we need to keep possession. Asking Crouch to make the ball stick with his back to goal will no help any of this happen.

I still think, on the basis of our potential attacking strength, this game should be a win, but it's going to be mighty tough if the lads don't show up with the correct mind set, because if this defence gets put under pressure, I see it wilting.

If, however, King is somehow fit, then him in for Corluka, Corluka on the bench, Giovani nowhere, Spurs win 10 - 0

This is with no Gallas and Leds in mind. I reckon Hudd would do a better job than Corluka at CB. Wilson or JJ sitting [I cant decide? im favouring JJ to be honest] with Mods to be the playmaker!

I feel we need to swith up the 451 to more like 4231 or 433 like Chelski. I think it would be better suited to Mods and Vaarty to slip balls in to Lennon and Bale to get in behind there FB's and put balls in for Crouchy, Vaarty and Mods.

Hudd over Charlie at CB all day long for me....will allow Jenas to slot in beside Modric in the middle as well.
