Re: Porro - a big reason why I'm not as concerned about him starting this game is because he's been "fortunate" to avoid international duty.

Last time he played for Spain was March 28th, 2023 - so for every international break we had last year, he was essentially getting an extended "break" to recover , save his legs from travel and any added fatigue from playing for Spain.

Before I was 21 I had seen us win the FA CUP 3 times, and then no wins in the 32 years since. I would give anything to win the FA Cup and not just because winning trophies is awesome (i can just about remember that 2008 feeling), but also because it would get that f****g monkey off our backs. Win the first trophy and others will follow.

We had a quite a few lowlights last season, but for me the worst was the Sheff Utd cup exit, following closely by my feeling of dread when i saw the team Conte picked that night before the game.

Come on Ange, COYS, pick a strong team and win the Cup Like we used to.

It’s also normal yo incorporate some rotation when in Europe , especially if you play a high intensity style like we do
Not that much. Arsenal have played 29 games and 5 players have played at least 27 of them. We don’t have anyone over 20. And anyway, we haven’t had a midweek game this week which would have been the one to worry about, and have 9 days after this game.

So by my maths that makes you 163. 😂

Why does Forster need minutes for match sharpness? As long as Vic is fit he wont be required.
Ok 'needs' may be too strong. It would be good for him to have some competitive minutes under his belt should he be required to play if GV is out for any reason, and Burnley at home in FA Cup is a low risk opportunity to do so.

Strong then sub out is my preference.

Forster
Porro Emerson Davies Udogie
Bentancur
Skipp GLC
Kulu Richarlison Johnson

Vicario Phillips Dier Dorrington PEH Donley Gill Santiago Scarlett.

At either 2-0 or about 60 min Porro, Bentancur for Phillips and PEH.

Gill, Dorrington and Donley to aso sub Kulu, Udogie and Richy at some point.

*the above obvs subject to injury, cards and flow of the game

Forster - we (like almost everyone else) typically play the back-up keeper in early Cup rounds

Royal - Porro deserves a rest
Phillips/Dorrington - lets see what they have
Davies - need a veteran presence in the back line, and with VdV back soon, we can afford to play him
Reguilon - because, why not, and it gives Udogie a rest. (I assume his loan is done now)

Skipp - he is not our best option at DM, but its probably his best position
Hojbjerg - I expect he will leave by the end of January - use up his minutes here
Lo Celso - continue to get minutes

Johnson - when everyone is back from international duty and injury - his minutes will go down - so he should be fine
Donley - with Richi on the bench
Bryan - last chance to show he deserves more minutes

I think a few players should be rested - not necessarily a wholesale rotation - but Porro has played a lot of minutes. Davies too - though he is likely to get an extended break soon.

Kulusevski just had a day off, so I can see the logic in keeping him in the XI (like we have a lot of options...(
I’d hate to see what you think a wholesale rotation looks like 😀

As I’ve said, playing 4 times in 2 weeks is pretty par for the course in most years, doing it once certainly isn’t a major issue, especially when they all have rest coming up. I’d be more worried about Porro being rusty is he only plays once between Jan 1 and Jan 31

Rest as many players as we can :cautious:

That way, when we lose, I can come in here and say we threw away winning the FA Cup and have all sorts of associated tantrums :woot:

Or, we can pick a sensible team, rest one or two IF they need it and see how we get on :D

After the flak Ange got for us crashing out of the other cup he'd be mad to play a weak team. I know Burnley aren't all that but they are still a PL side.

Could be nonsense but Kompany saying not much rotation for Burnley. I agree with others - start strong and sub off if possible:

A final word from Burnley manager Vincent Kompany on whether he will rest players against Tottenham: "We look at this game as another Premier League game. The goal for us is to continue trying to play against these teams and to get results against these teams. I don't think we can afford to do anything too crazy. Maybe one or two, but nothing major."

Start with a strong side. In an ideal world we build an early lead after a quick start then sub as and when needed.

We need to stop this charitable "give the reserve goalie a game" stuff. They are there for injury/suspension cover IMO. Why weaken your team unnecessarily when the club hasn't won a trophy for so long?

Does that mean Burnley counts as Bissouma's fourth and final suspended match? He's done three PL games.
Yes - but that was never an issue for Bissouma - because of AFCON he was always going to miss more games.

(This still counts as a suspended game for Bissouma even though he is off to AFCON and would not have played)

I wasn't sure if they only counted games he could actually play in.
