Unfortunate squad, IMO. 1 striker, not really any youth, 2 games in 2 days then 2 days off before the first game of the season. No clue why we didnt bring some more youth to keep the first teamers fresh. Setting ourselves up for tired legs and failure on Satuday, IMO.

Not any youth?!! yankspurs, you do realize only something like 9 of our 25-man squad is 24 or older? (that was a quick estimation).

If you are actually referring to 'youth team players,' at least the ones who went in Winks and Onomah and McGee are getting serious look-ins. 2-3 per year in the preseason from the youth team, especially at a "prestigious" pre-season tournament like this, is more than we can ask for, IMO.

I know this match is close to season kick-off, but if there is some good rotation in the matches (11 subs) then how much more difficult is a preseason friendly than a double training session with Poch? Assuming no stupid injuries, 45-60 minutes of game time shouldn't really affect a players' fitness. It could actually be a net positive.

Man U is coming back off a 4 game, 12 day trip to the US, right? They will have presumably returned on Saturday, 1/8. Yeah, good luck being productive for the first 2-3 days after being in a totally different time zone for half a month.

No clue why Coulthrist wasnt named in the squad seeing as how we only brought along Kane and Chadli as our strike options when they are both probably going to be in the team vs United. I dont know. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like a pretty darn incompetent decision to leave Shaq off. It's understandable that Oduwa was left off after what happened in the youth friendly this weekend.

Because he isn't good enough right now, maybe not ever! I haven't seen one thing from Shaquille Coulthirst that suggests he should even be in the same stadium as Real Madrid right now.

Not when the presigious tournament is 4 days before the start of the season.

I definitely thought we'd have brought more youth team players (which is obviously what Yankspurs was referring to).

No matter who we are playing, the bottom line is that it is still a pre-season friendly. Therefore, first team players still need the minutes for match fitness.

Youth team players who have no hope of featuring for us during the season don't need to be there.

I'm pleased that Carroll, Winks, Onomah, and McGee are still there, personally. And disappointed Pritchard is seemingly still too injured to join.

Maybe we have already agreed terms with Stuttgart and Werner. Werner will pass medical at Bayern Munich's facilities and then join the squad.

Who the fuck cares if he's good enough or not. You shouldn't go into a tournament with 2 games in 2 days only having 2 strike options, both of whom are first XI players, when you have the first game of the season 3 days later!

It's good that those guys are there, but there should be more youth players there. None of the first XI should be playing on Wednesday for the 2nd time in 2 days when the season starts 3 days later.

While I agree we shouldn't have this shortage at striker, it seems obvious Poch would rather just try Chadli and striker some more. Or maybe Poch is out to destroy Harry Kane and Tottenham Hotspur. Who the fuck knows.

Coulthirst is no longer a youth team member he is too old. He might not be the greatest player on the planet but he's the only striker we have apart from kane.
Do you really expect kane to play tuesday wednesday and saturday?

Why not take more youth? Have a squad of thirty and rotate them. Do you really give a shit about this tournament? It will be nice to watch but saturday is the big one.

Neither Chadli or Kane should play on Wednesday, though. That's the problem.

No, there should be as many candidates for the first team there as possible. Let's not waste anybody's time.

It is just disappointing that at this point, we don't have any nominative first team striker backups and for the first time this transfer window, I'm a touch concerned about it and wish Soldado had been on the plane.

Well then tell everybody else to stop treating Shaq like a youth team member then. We better not see his name in the youth team thread then.

And no, I don't expect Kane to play Tuesday, Wednesday, and Saturday! I'm not fucking stupid. The guy isn't a cyborg or anything! However, for the first time this TW, I am pretty pissed we don't have anybody else besides Chadli who even looks close to backing up Kane.

I'm just not freaking out that we didn't bring more youth, and no I don't really give a shit about this tournament, but I do give a shit about players who are actually going to play for Tottenham Hotspur to be the ones who get the minutes in friendlies 3 days before the season kicks off.

If we gave each player 45 mins that means that 44 players could get minutes.
Players like ccv, milos, oduwa, azzaoui, edwards, glover could have gotten valuable minutes. And guess what sooner or later all of them will be spurs players if we treat them right.
We are not saying start them against utd. We are saying don't knacker out our team before the first game of the season.

Yeah, you're right. It would have been cool to see the best of our youth on that pitch. I'll concede that I jumped the gun a little on that and I'll apologize to @yankspurs as well.

Still, I'm glad that the players are going to get good minutes against really good competition before United instead of playing Torquay United or some shit where we would play down to the competition before the opener.

I just pray that Poch knows what the hell he's doing, because I'll stand right there beside you and admit I don't have a clue what is going to happen with our striker position this season.

It would be Spursy to finally get that golden ticket youth product striker who is amazing just to crock him up because we played him too much.

You realize it isn't about giving minutes to young players, it's about resting first team players when there are two games in two days and we play on Saturday, right ?

My 2 cents worth: We have plenty of depth for rotation, except for up top. Even if Chadli fills in at ST, both he and Kane are going to be gassed on Saturday.
