Why does everyone think we are immune from fatigue and lack of sharpness? I can assure you every one of the top teams with large squads will be rotating wisely, so there is absolutely no reason why we shouldn't.

They could easily have been 3-0 up at half time.

Lots of bad things could happen if we don't rotate enough players. Verts and Walker are one booking away from a suspension. Toby has a history of hamstring problems, so Wimmer really needs to play at least one game. Pushing Kane too much could wreck our season if he gets a fatigue injury.

I'd play no more than 4 outfield players in both games.

Your reasons to rest players are actually hilarious.

2nd half we had chances to win the game and we were the fresher team so not sure what you're talking about?

LVG was even quoted as saying that it was a "struggle for life" and we the the much fitter team.

What point are you making then?

Not that complicated. The rest period between the 26th and 28th isn't long enough for players to be anywhere near their best in the second game if they played the first. Not only will they not be able to perform physically but they will be far more susceptible to injury than normal. For players who obviously can't play 3 games in a week anyway, like Dembele, 2 games in 2 days will be impossible. Therefore we have to choose which game to start him in.

It isn't though because it's only 1 rest day. Even with euro vase Thursday you get 2 days. It's well documented in sports science now that 2 days is the absolute minimum rest a player needs between games to recover enough to play again. Less than 48 hours later, their performance level will inevitably dip and the risk of injury going through the roof.

Some players just won't be able to manage it. Dembele for example, no chance of him starting both games I wouldn't have thought.

It's not ideal playing again so soon but it's the same for Watford, probably worse considering we have a better quality of squad

Our squad advantage only benefits us is Pochettino rotates, which is kind of my point. ANYWAY...

Lloris
Walker Alderweireld Vertonghen Rose
Dier Alli
Lamela Dembele Chadli
Kane

Vorm, Wimmer, Trippier, Bentaleb, Onomah, Eriksen, Son
That's for the Norwich game.

Vs Watford on Monday
Lloris
Trippier Alderweired Wimmer Davies
Bentaleb Mason
Lamela Onomah Eriksen
Kane

Vorm, Vertonghen, Rose, Alli, Winks, Townsend, Son

7 changes between Saturday and Monday. Every player has PL starting experience besides Onomah and Wimmer, but both have played very well in their limited playing opportunities and deserve the start. These teams should be good enough to pick up the 6 points.

I am tempted to start Son in one of the games for Kane. Ideally, we pick up a quick 3-0 advantage vs Norwich and we can take Kane off at half.

Is this a joke?

Yeah, let's rest 7 players and just expect to pick up 3 points at Watford. That's not how it works my love...

I think any problems we had during that game had more to do with the class of players we were using, not the lack of rotation.

Any side using Chriches, Fazio, Stambouli, and Townsend in their starting 11 with our tactics is going to struggle. Regardless of fitness and fatigue.

I am sure we will treat this like any other midweek game. We will rotate the fullbacks and 1-2 others in the mid-field roles.

whatever pochettino does it won't please everyone as some will think we should rotate completely, some will want to just put out the same 11 in all three games and others will be somewhere between the two.

We go for our strongest team tomorrow and then assess the situation for Watford

The following 6 players need to start both games;

Lloris
Alderweireld
Vertonghen
Dier
Dembele
Kane

Obvious changes for the other 5 are - Trippier Davies Mason Son Chadli for Walker Rose Alli Eriksen Lamela

The full backs and the 3 behind Kane can be rotated

This rotation business is strange, as the worst I've seen Kane and Eriksen play was the game after they were rested. One of those situations where you can't win either way.

I'd be tempted to try something like the below though for Norwich (think All, Lamela and Dembele would be ideal for Watford's power)...

Kane
Chadli Carroll/Mason Son
Bentaleb Dier
Davies Vertonghen Alderweireld Walker
Lloris

Maybe a few too many not fully match sharp guys in there though...

Will have changed my mind by the morning.
