I would drop Alli, his goals have masked some pretty anonymous performances. Bentaleb can bring the same high energy game and added quality on the ball, if a diminished goal threat

Lloris

Walker Toby Jan Davies

Dier Bentaleb

Lamela Dembele Chadli

Kane

Give Eriksen a 'rest' and get Chadli back up to speed, he has his critics but Chadli is a crucial player for us in my book so we need to get him back and firing over the Xmas period

Yeah people are going a bit overboard really.

I'd be up for resting players providing their replacements are up to standard, for example if it means resting Lamela and Ali for Son and Bentaleb then I don't see how that would make a massive difference, it's certainly not that detrimental to the team. Obviously if people are advocating resting players like Kane and Alderweireld then I agree that they both need to play.

Defo too much panic and theorising re supposed tiredness.

Yes, we need to tap into this depth and allow players to define their roles.

Have to believe Carrol and Bentaleb will get a run out now that they have some game time. Followed by Son, Chadli coming in and Lamela coming into the middle. A couple changes to look like this.

Lloris
Walker Toby Verts Rose
Bentaleb Carrol
Son Lamela Chadli
Kane

Would like to see josh out there but feel we keep the experience in the attacking front and try to put it to bed fast.

The thing is, where's the high energy off the ball work in that side? Carrol, and Bentaleb in the centre? Chadli on the AM3? It looks like a team Redknapp might have put out, a side which on paper should be able to pass the ball about, but lacking in heart.

I think Watford will target our game as being more likely for them to win so they'll probably rest some players against Chelsea, so I think we should against Norwich, who themselves will prioritize Aston Villa at home a couple of days later.

It would be foolish for us to just pick the strongest team with no thought for the fact we play a tough away game two days later.

You are sooo over thinking it! We should just do as Nicdic says. Which is what we will do.

Don't think we will "rest" anyone & there is no need as well IMO.
But I would drop Eriksen though.

My XI

Lloris,
Walker, Toby, Jan, Davies,
Dier, Alli,
Lamela, Dembele, Son,
Kane

Yeah I get that but for those of you that think Norwich are going to be some sort of push over, you need to think again. They have just beaten utd away and although it's a very poor utd, they will be full of confidence.

We HAVE to get 3pts from this game, no excuses.

We have to field our best side at the moment and to drop one of our most influential players this season, is madness.

And for those of you that are changing the team by three or four players...are you mental? Our next game is a home league game, it's not against some pony side in the Europa.

This. The game to rotate is Watford. They too would have played on Saturday, but their squad won't give them the luxury of changing too many players. Advantage us, but will still be a tough game.

Rest Alli so he's hungry for the Watford game. Rose's pace gives us an extra threat out wide and should help to stretch a team that will probably look to sit deep and compact. Plus, the competition between Rose and Davies is working well so now it's Rose's chance to impress. I'd be keen to bring Bentaleb on in the second half to either give Dembele or Dier a breather in preparation for the Watford game.

Son pressed one of the best games against Chelsea and Lamela is hands down our most energetic player. But I see your point.

I think that to rest players for a game in which they would be fresh, in anticipation of them being fatigued for a game two days afterwards is a deeply flawed approach. That situation should be assessed after the first game whilst at the same time seeking to evaluate the effects a very similar schedule has on the second opposition. Our greater strength in depth should be exploited then but not at the time of the first game, which would be speculative.

Exactly this. Full strength team for Norwich as far as I'm concerned, and then see if anyone's puffing for the Watford game. Watford have to play at the same time as us on Boxing day, so we should have no excuse if our players are more fatigued than theirs when in actual fact we've had an extra day's rest/preparation this week.

Yes, we've had a busier schedule in recent months, but we also have a far more expansive first team squad than they do.

Mental to drop/rest Dier and Alli and Poch wont do it.

'Goals papering over Alli form' doesnt make sense to me, his goals have been critical this year and the runs forward he makes gives us an attacking edge, Dier and Dembele can do the grunt work. Goal scoring mids are vital.

My only concern with Alli is that he looks rooted at about 70 mins and he could do with being subbed earlier

Some people want rotation for the sake of it. It is the league, if the coaches on tthe ground consider a player fit then he should be selected if he is best available.

I quite like that, my only worry would be if Eriksen is up for the battle against Watford, they're quite a physical side and he only seems half hearted with those types of games.

Hmm I don't actually see Eriksen in the line up

We have players that are coming back to fitness and need game time in Chadli, Son and Bentaleb. At least one of them should start this one.

I can't imagine Poch will swap one player for this game compared to the Saints line up. Probably Rose in for Davies.

I would bring in Son for Alli but highly doubt that.

My choice for the two games:

v Norwich

Lloris - Walker, Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Davies - Dier, Dembele - Eriksen, Lamela, Son - Kane
Vorm, Wimmer, Trippier, Bentaleb, Alli, Onomah, Chadli

v Watford:

Lloris - Trippier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Rose - Bentaleb, Dier - Alli, Chadli, Lamela - Kane
Vorm, Wimmer, Mason, Dembele, Carroll, Eriksen, Son
