I am not convinced by Soldado + Kane combo in the league. It worked once sort of. Chadli has been our top scorer and I want to see him back for Swansea. Play him left with Kane up top and probably Lennon on the right. Eriksen rest midweek and back to pull the strings at the weekend.

Paulinho in Europa so at least someone gets a rest in the center. Bring Rose back too with a view to potentially coming back to the league lineup 2 games from now. Naughton or Walker hopefully can play, just depends on fitness.

Think its pretty clear that we need to give a week's rest to the players who have played in the Everton/Chelsea/Crystal Palace Games so that they are ready to play Swansea in the PL next weekend - so that means Lloris, Fazio, Vertonghen, Davies, Lennon, Mason, Bentaleb, Eriksen and Kane (9 players) - Soldado had a bit of a rest so might need to go to Turkey.

Its a question whether we give 30-45 minutes to Walker to give him more game time, or whether that plus the travel will tire him before the SWansea game. On balance I think I'd rest him.

Its a question for Poch as to whether he thinks that Adebayor, Capour and Kaboul have served their punishishment (ITK) and if so I'd play all of them in Turkey - gives some of he others a rest.

I'd take a number of the kids to Turkey - and start 3 of them from the bench almost regardless of the score at say 60 minutes. We need to give them experience and this seems the perfect opportunity as we need to rest our best players I'm not expecting to win.

Hope its just fringe players and youngsters.

I really don't give a shit who plays, far more interested in who doesn't travel, since its very apparent we can't cope with too many games.

I hope this lot arn't on the plane:

Lloris
Vertonghen
Mason
Bentaleb
Eriksen
Kane
Lennon

Does anyone think either Mason or Bentaleb can play further forwards for Swansea?

I'm not convinced the combo is a long term plan due to their lack of defensive nous and I think Stambouli should play, but they are also two of the better passers of the ball so would like to see both play.

Maybe...

Lloris

Naughton Fazio Vertonghen Davies

Stambouli Bentaleb

Chadli Eriksen Mason

Kane

Think the Mason/Bentaleb CM2 works as well as any other of the players we have (although we've hardly seen Stambouli for some unknown reason), but think Mason/Bentaleb works better if either Lennon plays as he adds defensive strength or alternatively the AM's move around a lot so that they create lots of opportunity for Mason/Bentaleb to pass forward and the AM's track back to support the CM2. If not I'd drop an AM and move to a CM3 playing Stambouli with Mason and Bentaleb

By my count, there are four teams in the EPL that have gotten ZERO goals from their central midfielder so far this season. Those clubs are: West Brom, Burnley, Aston Villa, and Tottenham. That's not a good group to be in. This wouldn't be an issue if we had strikers blasting goals in, but we have some of the least effective goal-scorers up front in the league, also, with a combined 5 league goals for our 3 strikers combined through 15 games.

Numbers like that are why we cannot afford to play Lennon and Townsend (2 league goals [one deflection and one cross] in their last 63 hours of EPL football) for any period of time, or drop Eriksen and Chadli (accounted for 61% of our goals). We failed massively last summer by selling several attacking players and replacing them with no one.

Just because you work hard and adhere to a system doesn't mean goals or scoring chances will naturally come. We need end product in this side. Poch has to figure out how to get players like Dembele, Paulinho and Lamela playing at their best, or he'll struggle to get us to 60 points this season. Levy just doesn't have a history in the last 4 years of spending in January, so any attacking reinforcements won't come until the summer, which may come too late in Poch's tenure to matter if we keep playing turgid football.

Spare everyone against Besiktas that are going to line up to start next league game.
Close to this:
Vorm
Walker - Kaboul (c) - Chiriches
or Ball if unfit - Rose
Paulinho - Dembele - Stambouli - Townsend

Lamela

Coulthirst

subs.
McGee, Walker-Peters, Ball / Ogilvie, Winks, McEvoy / Onomah, Oduwa, Akindayini

I certainly agree that Stambouli should be playing more!

Mason was playing as no.10 for reserves behind centre forward and very prolific.

I think people in know speculate that his injury woes may have curtailed this though?

Otherwise you could look at:

Loris

Walker fazio Vertonghen davies

Lennon bentaleb Paulinho eriksen

Mason

Kane

But I think kane is more comfy in no.10 role.
