I wonder how Donley fits into a Postecoglu team (assuming he sticks to 4-3-3), does anyone think he can adapt to CM to play the 8/10 hybrid role?

I can see him potentially playing off the right, but i do like his ability to play a no 10 role.

I have a funny feeling Harvey white might be the one to step up next season as a squad player. Versatile, good passer. 22 now so should be physically ready. Could play 6 or 8, snd I even wonder if he could be a good inverted left back with done coaching.
After talking up the new manager as one to value the academy they will have to give someone a go with the first team next season!!

I'm a little more cynical about this, particularly as we have a squad of roughly 103483038 players at the moment.

Couldn’t get into an average derby side in L1. Not impossible but it would very surprising.

Given the club statement on the new manager I wonder if there’ll be any youngsters stepping up and making an impact in the coming months.

Are the likes of Devine, Scarlet or Lankshear anywhere near ready?
They all need loans out that will give them senior experience first imo. Scarlett didn't rip up many trees as far as goals were concerned although he has received praise for his work rate. He needs another loan imo.

This is the problem. Our standouts are only standouts amongst their teammates. I'm not writing them off, but they need to do more when they get opportunities in lower leagues if they want a chance to play Prem football.

You’re probably right. They all need guaranteed first team minutes, or at least a guaranteed chance of those minutes if they work hard enough. They won’t get that being back up here. Though I think it’s shit or bust time for Parrot probably.

Although I agree that there has been an issue with the amount of playing time these guys get, I also think there has been a distinct lack of quality over the last few years.

Our first team consists of:

Tanganga, Austin & Whiteman - not good enough.
Skipp - a good squad player.
Kane - obviously world class.

The on loan players are:

Winks - not good enough.
White - is not dominating league 1 as a 21 year old.
Scarlett - struggled for goals but is still very young.
Parrott - not sure he will ever be good enough.

In the U21 list on the official website, the most notable players are:

Craig, Devine, John, Mathurin, Mundle, Paskotsi & Soonsup-Bell - all of which either require a loan or will be leaving us. None are ready for the step up to PL football or may never be. All the other players in that squad I can see being released at some point. Also, for me, out of the most notable players the only player I see being PL standard is Devine.

It’s only when you drop down to the U18 where you start to see some real talent in:

Abbott, Andiyapan, Donley, Dorrington, Kyerematen, Hall, Irow & Moore (I’m sure there are a few I’ve missed too)

This group of players who range from 15/16 to 18 are the ones we need to focus on and try to bring through. I’d like to think that Ange would want the youth teams to reflect the first team and play the same style of football, as that would be the very first thing I would do.

If we play the next few years right, there is no reason we could have 3-5 players from that group being part of the first team starting with Devine and down the Mikey Moores of this world.

I agree with most of this, but that's no good in the short term and Ange needs financial support to get things on track first. We will be far better off bringing the youngsters into a an organised confident group than throwing them into a mess. If he starts to play the likes of Sarr, Spence, Udogie they'll see he's open to play the younger players. I personally think he will love Sarr and he will see a lot of minutes.

Yeah i agree, we already have a core of young/inexperienced players in our first team that could get themselves into the side if they show willingness to do what Ange wants and learn from him.

Sarr I totally agree with. He has the athleticism to be a hard working 8 in the “Celtic” formation Ange played. With Bissouma being the anchor and a Maddison type being the other.

Cant loan out Devine for another season

I dont think white can make the step up but he was class for derby from when I saw him and everyone praised him

Im not saying this in a negative way but could you point me to where Ange has shown he is going with an academy?

Every manager always praises the academy when they join but they dont use it

Does it need to be 3 consecutive seasons for club-trained or just 3 seasons in total? If it's the latter then I think we could loan him out next season and he'd still qualify as club-trained provided he was back with us in 2024/25.

Any three within the age range - and he has, anyway, just completed his third!

Agree with this absolutely.
