We seem to have a very knowledgeable group in here regarding the youth system. With Alfie Devine rumoured to be close to joining, I've tried to find some clips of him but I know he's only 15 so there isn't anything about. What are people's view on him? Seems he left Liverpool for Wigan? What type of midfielder is he? Any information would be great cheers.

I saw him play for England at the tournament at the end of last year. He was playing with Hackett and Maguire, and Forson for that matter (first time I'd properly seen him in ages).

While I would've preferred to keep Forson, as his style would've helped with the balance of the squad more as offers something different, replacing him with Devine would still be great. In saying that though Devine's style defintely stands the better chance of coming through for us, which I suppose is better in the long run.

He's a deep lying playmaker who likes to spread the ball about, but also seems to be up for a tackle and can get about. Seems to take the ball well off both feet and moves about and provides an option. He was actually the Player of the tournament.

Overall he'd be a great addition and possibly the best academy signing we've brought in for a while in that respect, so I'm definitely pleased and seems with basically traded one talent for another. The only downside, like I said, he may be a bit too samey. Assuming Davies isn't a CM I'm thinking of, both Craigs do that CM role though one slightly more defensive the other more creative. I know Cassanova used to do it but has turned into a bit more of a utility man. Haysman used to be a DLP don't know if he still is but in the more AM style, and now John has moved there it could get congested though I imagine his stlye is more similar to Forson, which covers that bit tbh. I'd like to see John in the u23s next year though.

If he came I imagine the strongest lineup would be

----------Lo'Tutala
Cesay-Lusala-Muir-Hackett
------Mi.Craig-Devine--------
Whittaker---John----Mathurin
------------Scarlett-------------

With Robson missing out

Appreciate this thank you. What happened to Forson?

Welcome.

And he left us as he didn't think he would get chances here, and got picked up by United.

I don't know if this has been confirmed but good to try and add another England international in a similar position to replace him

I understand why Forson left but I just hope he doesn't follow the path of Denziel Boadu and Jason Banton. Boadua left us for the Gooners as a schoolboy, then turned down a scholarship with them and signed with Citeh, then wanted to go to Germany and signed with Dortumund and then turned up at Crawley who have since let him go. Banton didn't think he the Gooners valued him enough so he signed for us then a month later had a change of heart and went back but then turned down the Gooners scholarship in favour of the Spammers but then asked to be released from his scholarship with them and signed with Blackburn. He turned down their offer of a pro deal to sign with Liverpool where he lasted less than six months before he signed and barely played for pretty much every team in England. The reason I draw the comparison is that Forson started out (I believe) with QPR and then got snapped up by the Spammers and then he binned them off for us and then binned us off for Man Utd. Whilst I understand that player's want to be somewhere they feel valued and supported there is something to be said for stability, building a rapport and not thinking the grass is always greener.

Totally agree. Sometimes a player is ultimately being advised incorrectly and then there are others who feel like they are better than they are or the grass is greener.

I don’t mind a young player leaving if he feels like his development is being stunted (Sancho being the best example). However to just flip flop around clubs is never a good idea.

The case around Boadu isn't the same. He left Arsenal and joined Cities academy and was doing excellently banging goals.

He was then out for 2 years through various injuries and operations and it looked like his career was over.

His contract then ended and Dortmund took a chance knowing his previous talent and getting him on the cheap. Noone can blame him for that. Unfortunately he never rediscovered his takent

Anyone seen enough to give a review on the 3 GK?

Bie
Amos
Whitman

De Bie has been released. I've never rated Whiteman and Amos is a midfielder. I guess you mean Brandon Austin. I like Austin and I think he's the best keeper we have outside of senior three. He's unlikely to become number one but he could easily be number two or three. The problem for young goalkeepers is why would you want to do that? You can't develop if you're sat on the bench and unlike outfield positions goalkeepers are rarely rotated. Personally I'd loan both Whiteman and Austin out and bring in an over the hill keeper to act as third choice.

Seems Alfie Devine has signed anyone on here seen much of him?
As far as I’m aware he’s a ball winning playmaker who can be back up to Harry Kane, bombard at full back while being defensively solid and succeed Hugo as our first choice goalkeeper.

I assume we went for Jack Clarke so decisively because we missed out of Brooks the season before and how good he proved to be for Bournemouth

He will be hyped up beyond belief and some SC posters will have him in their starting XI for the first game of the season.

Jose will leave him in the under 18s, which will split opinion. 50% will say if you are good enough you are old enough. The other 50% will say that if he was good enough he would be given a chance and will write him off before his 17th birthday and accuse youth watchers of over rating our youngsters.

After becoming an England regular, Spurs fans will turn on Oliver Skipp because he isn't shiny and new and Devine will grab his opportunity.

Devine will be written off after a couple of 5 minute cameos, playing out of position but will stay part of the first team squad rather than being loaned out.

After 3 seasons of being the best midfielder in the world, Devine will have a small dip in form, prompting Spurs fans to label him the new Mason/Winks/Skipp and will demand he is sold as they don't see what he actually does.

Youth watchers who try to defend him will be shouted down and given a list of former youngsters who weren't good enough either to prove their point.

In the meantime, their will be huge excitement around 15 year old Barry Payne who is the next big thing in the academy and should be fast-tracked into the first team as Devine's replacement.

FM and FIFA fans will be furious as he looks bang average in his youtube video and the club need be signing some random Peruvian wonderkid who has a 2 minute highlight reel accompanied by the latest grime track from MC Donalds.

Pretty sure that's what will happen, but can't help with the original question as I have never seen him play.

Well played Sir, also I'd like to express my thanks for the pearls of wisdom and info passed on by the likes of @IGSpur @Spurzinho and Co who makes this undoubtably my favourite thread on SC

I thought we offered contracts to De Bie and also Poch son in June.

I read the new Poch son signing but never heard anything about De Bie. Did he reject the contract?
