The only crumb of hope from today is that every ‘top side’ will concede plenty this season. Chelsea 3 yesterday, City 5, Utd 6, Pool 7. It’s going to be bizzare. Another day Sánchez header goes wide and Lanzini blasts that into top tier.

Who would have thought Villa would have the best defensive record so far. Crazy start to the season.

Such a shame that we managed to throw that away.

Too many players not quite there when it comes to mentality. Mistakes can happen but the same players make the same ones over and over.

If Jose can identify a defensive system with the least mistakes in it than that we still have a chance of challenging as the league is all over the place this year.

That result reminded me of Klopp's early Liverpool. Can steamroll teams but know how to shoot themselves in the foot. I think if we'd had a defender who likes to attack aerially we'd have seen that out easily.

I thought the Balbuena goal was a very soft one to concede as the ball was up in the air for a little longer than those typical ones, that's when defenders who love to head away come in handy as they live on that. It's likely that the second goal and the eventual fightback wouldn't have happened.

I do think we have a lot of elements of title winners in there but the big one we seem to miss is not throwing away great opportunities.

We should have an extra 4 points and be really looking at taking top spot but because we are unable to see out wins in these games of opportunities it is going to be much tougher to get closer.

I said before that I believe we are title winners once we are able to grab an opportunity to go top, as I think that would be a huge moment and sign that this club/team has got over a hurdle that has held us back for so long. On today's evidence it's not there yet.

Jose needs to now find a way to get more out of these defenders and hopefully get Skriniar in January, unless of course Rodon can be that player.

Agree. Our defense is as calamitous as Liverpools a few years ago and our attack as potent.

Interesting thing about this season (as well as the psychological weirdness of playing in empty stadiums) is that no team has a decent defence. Not even Liverpool now.

Everyone is forgetting one thing about Bale’s chance, there’s no way it would have stood anyway, VAR would have been all over it moving forward off Aurier’s arm. We’d have been looking at Lucas v Sheff Utd all over again.

It would have stood, ball travelled long distance between "handball" and chance

At HT I came downstairs and my missus asked what the score was. She then said “so you’ve basically won then? Is is really worth watching the 2nd half?”.

I’ve just told her that even though she has little interest and knows fuck all about football, after being with me 15 years you would think she would have learnt something about the football team I support .
She was right - it wasn’t worth watching the second half.

Chaos Pickford took care of that one.

Sanchez is dogshit. He is our worst centre back. He is not good enough. He wouldn't get into any of the other top 6 defences and some of them are as bad as ours right now.
The other premier league top6 defences includes likes of Maguire, Bailly, Lindelof, Zouma, David Luiz or Rob Holding. He isn't worse than them and most of them already made much worse mistakes this season than Davinson.

If you think Winks is good enough I give up.
Sanchez and Winks are nowhere near good enough if we have top 4 / title aspirations.
Winks is good enough to be our backup midfielder and us losing points isn't because of Winks.
They were good enough to be important part of our team with top4/title aspirations for last 3 or 4 years and it didn't change.

True. To be honest I try not to let Spurs get to me so much now but I guess I got caught up in all the transfer, United 6-1 and Bale hype that I let myself slip a bit.

Is always dangerous when you allow Spurs to dictate your happiness :D
Awwww I get it mate. I was on cloud nine until the 82nd Minute tonight and once that first Spam goal went in I mentally prepared myself for what was coming ? I’m still happy though, might feel like a loss but it wasn’t and I’m backing us to go on and win the next 3 or 4 until that run with the top six. It’s always unicorns and rainbows and then piss soup with shit croutons being a Spurs fan. We love it though and we’ll be in contention come the end no doubt ?

Really let's sign zouma, christensen, bailley, maguire (80m)

Oh really why don't we swap him for zouma, christensen, lindelof, maguire (80m), bailley we'd be rock solid then.

I remember thinking at 3-0 in the first half that we weren’t exactly dominating the match or creating tons of chances. We were just ruthlessly clinical with two of the best finishers in the league.

I wouldn't be surprised if there being no crowd increases the possibility players will switch off. Some players feel the crowd and it gives them added focus, whereas without players are more likely to go into their own thoughts and distractions.

Of course that may change with a couple of leaders on the pitch.

I really can’t understand the stick the CBs are getting this game. All our problems came from the team switching off 2nd half, not tactically dealing with WH overloading us in wide areas, and individual mistakes from Sissoko and Winks. Sanchez’s OG was unlucky, although maybe he could have done better.

Disagree with the DS point. Watch the game back and count up the number of times he almost connects with balls fired across the back line. Foot, head, he can help himself. There were 4/5 occasions where he could have made contact for the ball to fly anywhere. Clear weakness in his game.

Weak link
As is Sissoko and Aurier.
Cant have them in a title/top 4 challenging starting XI

I never said we should sign some of those players, I said our defence is as bad as some of the others, and he still wouldn't get into them.
