Yep. I’m amazed we didn’t buy another central midfielder in the transfer window. I said all along we were crying out for another proper defensive midfielder in there.

Seems mad talking about it already but we certainly know where the next priorities lie in next summers transfer window sorting out the defence and centre mid - Shipping likes of Winks, Sissoko and Toby out, If something can be done to sign Skirnar in January that would be amazing but highly doubt it will happen in Jan.

I'm tired of how we get duped into giving away stupid frees. I saw four instances today were it happened and the ref bought it. We will never learn they done nothing absolutely nothing to draw that game. And that is the sickening thing.

José screwed that up well and truly. We came out second half with 11 players behind the ball and invited them on. We're simply not good enough to win a game by being passive. We have to attack. If we let the other team attack us, we'll concede goals. Against anyone.
I actually think we were fine - the problem wasn't the tactics but rather the changes we made. We genuinely looked very comfortable until about the 75th minute and weathered West Ham's storm very well at the start of the half.

Thing is, we brought on Bale who didn't track back or run half as much as Bergwijn, then compounded matters by taking off Ndombele - our one truly elite midfielder - who can maintain possession under pressure and draw fouls, for Winks.

99/100 times we still win that game and Jose's changes are fine, but as he said in his post match interview 'it's football'. There's always a chance things like this can happen and we opened the door just enough to let them in.

Seriously even if we had won 3-0 we are no where near mounting a title challenge!

Maybe this result is a good thing if it brings the people who seriously thought we were even close to a title challenge back down to earth.

This year is shaping to be the most open contest ever. The frontrunners all have shaky moments. Honestly we could have a better chance than the one we chased Leicester.

At HT I came downstairs and my missus asked what the score was. She then said “so you’ve basically won then? Is is really worth watching the 2nd half?”.

I’ve just told her that even though she has little interest and knows fuck all about football, after being with me 15 years you would think she would have learnt something about the football team I support .

I don't think we did anything different the whole game tbh. You say 11 players behind the ball, but what we're doing - Soton, Utd, today - is more like the back four and cm2 defending, then the No.10 and especially the two wingers sometimes getting back in to help out but often not and found in 'cheat' positions ready to damage the opposition on the counter attack. I didn't see anything really that different in the first half to the second half, or in the other games I mentioned (Soton had chances to get at us, Utd pre-implosion got at us with virtually every pass in the first 25 mins).

I didn't expect it from Mourinho, nor do I particularly like it, but we're playing a very open game currently which has pro's and con's. The often 6-4 split in the team has trade offs - we'll score lots of goals, particularly swift moves in minimal phases of play, but the 'defensive 6' have to do an awful lot of work and it requires them to really be on their game, plus very good defensive operators. Do we have it? Remains to be seen....

As for controlling the game, that is a problem full stop and something we must address. We often get pushed back because we just can't keep the ball, as a team. It's very often counter or bust and becomes a problem later in games as we tire, get nervous, etc and can't put together those fast counter attacks as sharply.

Aurier is a liability. He just can't stop giving away free kicks. If we're playing a team who thrives on set pieces he should be nowhere near the team. He has at least two mistakes in him every game

Sanchez is one of the worst centre backs we have had in the ENIC era. Everytime he has the ball i worry. If the ball goes into the box anywhere near him I worry. He exudes zero confidence.

Harry Winks has not kicked on. Its as simple as that. IMO he brings nothing to the team. He can't screen the defence. He doesn't create chances and his passing is sideways and backwards. He makes John Obi Mikel look like Glenn Hoddle.

Sissoko is a bench player at best. He is tough, robust and quick but like Aurier he's liable to give away stupid free kicks and make stupid errors.

Until these players are replaced these sort of games will happen from time to time and its something we'll have to get used to.

This is such a good post. Sums up the situation (and the players in question) perfectly

as i said earlier in this thread, every time we are building momentum, every time there is excitement and a feel good factor about the club, every time we have a winnable game next to really make a statement, we shit the bed.

every time, always forever and ever

The last game I can truly remember us passing the litmus test was city away 15/16. Unfortunately a few weeks later we let a ten man arsenal team draw us as we were about to top the league.

Tips to fellow spurs fans to get through until our next league game ( we should beat FC coco pops on thursday, not counting it as a game). So back to tips:

- Go to internet browser, settings, delete history and cookies. This should assist in avoiding all sports, spurs and football related news.

- whatsapp - put all footy discussion groups on mute for a week.

- social media - just stay away, preferably permanently.

- work, just dont go, say you need to self isolate for 7 days.

- if this fails, call samaritans. I have had them on speed dial since 1991. They have been useful.

It won't. There's some still posting that this result might be the kick up the backside we need to go on and win the league :ROFLMAO:

I never subscribed to this title talk. It's still wide open, but we make too many mistakes and our defence isn't good enough.

There were times when our midfield were nowhere to be seen today, giving West Ham acres of space, so the defence didn't have the required protection.

Sanchez was extremely poor and cost us two goals. Snodgrass wasn't fouled and they were lucky to get a free kick at the end. However, Winks has to clear the ball and just hoof it down the pitch (great strike by Lanzini to he fair)

Just like the Newcastle game, we could have killed this off with some of our chances, especially Bale, but to draw when 3-0 up after 16 mins at home is shocking.
Credit to West Ham for a much improved display in the second half.

Felt sorry for Kane, he was everywhere and worked really hard for the team.

Lamela if fit needs to be on the bench.
Mentality and working horse.

Moura or bergwijn should have been left out

Current showings - Lamela starts if fit !!!!

I have no time for Sissoko as a starter. GLC and Lamela should both start ahead of him.
Dier starts over Sanchez
Doherty starts ahead of Aurier (who has improved recently tbh, but still gives away cheap free kicks)

All three not top 4 quality for 90 minutes, always a mistake in there.

Moura and Bergwijn both attacking depth. not starts again

Most bizarre sub for me, was bringing on Moura just as we were starting to wobble. We needed an extra CM at that point, even to go with the extra CB, or even Harry deeper with Bale up top, def not the luxury of a wide forward.
That was very un Jose. Shut the game down and get it won.

You’re right that although our changes didn’t help, they hardly meant we would concede 3 - it was a freak.

I also don’t buy the argument that by taking Ndombele off we lost control in midfield. I don’t think we really controlled the game before. It was a tight affair where we had the edge in chances but through clinical finishing ended up with a convincing lead. Don’t forget how they missed an open goal.

I haven’t seen the xG but I bet it says something to the effect of 2-1 or 1-1. As a team and manager that’s what you can control. There were some unusual goals in this game, including two long rangers and an own goal.

I had the opposite. I said I thought this was going to be a tough match at 3-0 thinking it was over and my mrs said “ spurs will mess it up you never learn”

Think we'll still have a good season and we're only five games in but the dropped points are still *so* frustrating.

We should be top of the league and flying but instead we're behind Arsenal, Liverpool etc after a start with comparatively easy games.

I don't think we can rely on GLC he is always injured.
