Clusterfuck.

Some observations:
1. Somebody should tell Gazzaniga that a goalkeeper can use his hands in his own penalty box.
2. Congratulations to the VAR for finally disagreeing with the ref and pointing out that Gazzaniga's ludicrous flattening of the Chelsea player was a clear and obvious error. (The ref actually gave us a free kick for that; what a fucking idiot.)
3. Swiftly negated by the fact that he completely failed to draw the ref's attention to Aurier being hauled to the ground at our corner later in the game.
4. Son's red card, while not a malicious challenge, was completely correct.
5. Rudiger should also have received a yellow card for his play-acting. The VAR can't tell the ref to award a yellow, but he can tell him to look at the incident on the screen to make his own decision. Another fail by the VAR in what was obvious 'simulation'.
6. Punting long, high balls towards a lone striker who is marked by three big centre backs is the very definition of pointlessness.
7. Racism is evil. Anybody indulging in it should not only be completely ashamed of themselves, they should also receive a lifetime ban from every football ground in the world and receive a minimum of 1,000 hours of community service and a large fine, which should be donated to anti-racism organisations.

That's without pointing out other completely obvious aspects of the performance, such as our tactics were shit, Aurier will never be a footballer as long as his arse faces south, and even a great player like Harry Kane can't affect a game without the ball and when given no help against three opponents.

EDIT
I've just noticed that Rudiger was booked in the 78th minute. If he had rightly been booked earlier for his simulation, it would've been ten-a-side for the last twenty minutes (twelve plus eight added). We would probably still have lost, but who knows?

so this is Jose's new tactics ?
great video about contes 3-4-3 (how they played under lampard today) and why it works so well against 4-2-3-1 etc.
suprised Jose didn’t have an answer to this.He seemed to say he changed it at HT but 2-0 and sonny red killed us, would’ve been interesting had we gone to HT at 1-0 and kept 11 men could Jose have turned it around like he did vs Olympiakos.

The changes Jose made at half time very much were working for us, in as much as asking questions of their back line. Kane, Son and Dele all found space running in behind their right back. We also (suprise suprise) looked a lot better with a technician playing in central midfield. Eriksen did get us ticking and we were able to find him in space.

All in all, we need better individual's and less moronic mistakes. The xG stats seem to reflect that they didn't have a great number of chances, but then we did fuck all with the rare attacks we did make.

The biggest concern for me is the constant line coming out from the club that we don't need to spend money and Jose is happy with the squad!! How the fuck can he be happy with that squad!
We have a very talented squad - on paper. When we're firing on all cylinders, people can't stop gushing about how good we are. Need a decent DM and two full backs. Our problem is consistency. We know how good we can be, it's up to Jose to sort out the mental side of it.

Did we change shape at HT or just put Dirksen straight swap for dier so we could actually keep the ball?

Think we need another AM as well as Lucas isn’t consisten enough, lamela isn’t ever fit and sess is still young

He can’t be too happy at being outdone by Ole and Fat Frank since he joined. Like a heavyweight getting knocked about by a couple of lightweights

So poor first half, from the first minute and then the stupidity just took it to another level. Serve chatting and not even looking at the play for the first goal was bad enough, before Gazzanigia tried ( and succeeded ) to outdo anyone of Auriers brain farts in one fell swoop. I could see from 80 yards away it was a stonewall penalty. Idiot

Talking of idiots, Son. Idiot.

@DJS Is your dad still a steward Dan lad?

He was on east stand, stewarding one of the posh nobber blocks.

Martin Tyler and Gary Neville walked past him lol, Tyler said hello but Neville didn’t as was talking to someone so we’re undecided if he’s a snobby **** or not lol. He’s also very short, which we kinda knew but dad is around 6’2.

Anywhoo enough of that super interesting stuff, dad didn’t hear any racism but did see the Chelski player discussing with the ref and showing the ref the monkey pose, so nothing new for, what’s been said really.

Although good to hear dad didn’t hear anything as hopefully means a very small section of morons.

The style and system can work but the long ball needs to stop. The passing needs to be on the ground or into the channel for Son or Lucas and Dele needs to find the right space not down the left as he often seems to

I dont think it is a talented squad, we have glaring gaps in key areas... we have talented players but not an entirely talented squad.

I would also argue that talent gets you nowhere without the right mentality, motivation and determination and in all honesty our squad is bereft of those qualities and attributes.

I think the questions facing us at the moment are whether the wonky 325 is worth pursuing and if so how do we go about making it work.

I personally like it, but feel like it's very dependent on players being on their game all the time. Aurier is not up to scratch and needs replacing, that much is evident and the ready made solution would be to put Foyth in his place and bring Sessegnon in. However, it seems that Sess is not yet trusted to take on that responsibility due to his defensive frailties. Vertonghen though has been severely out played in the last two games, so one could argue that young Sess should be given a try.

I'd also like to know how people feel about playing two technicians in front of the back three. I personally think we'd be fine with two such players in there, retaining a Dier-esque player to play in the games we need a little more steel. Take Chelsea today as an example; where Jorginho was benched in favour of a Kante/Kovacic duo. I'm still in favour of trying out Skipp on the left side, especially if we do experiment with Sessegnon.

Moving on from that area brings in Son, Kane, Moura and Dele. As far as I'm concerned, Lucas is not of sufficient quality to be a starter. He is mentally a step behind some of the others and my first target to replace. Ideally we find a left footed Son/Lamela hybrid but I've no idea if such a player exists. We've seen that someone like GLC isn't cut out for that role, they have to be a wing forward/pacy #10. GLC should get a shot at replacing Dele though.

So yeah, I want an Aurier replacement, a midfield general to play with N'Dombele and a world class #10/wing forward hybrid to come in in the next couple of windows.

When doesn't he do that? Our players seem to have this weird thing about allowing it. Rashford at OT, and Coutinho time and time again was allowed to get in shot after shot. Thick as fuck the lot of em
It’s actually what you’re supposed to do as a fullback, show them inside so they run into traffic instead of isolating you one on one.

His problem was that he was too slow out to harass him and he wasn’t backed up by the team pushing up. He’s the fullback pushing out and should have had one of the midfielders following to plug the space Willian in pushed into. Instead our lot remained stuck in the 6 yard box and didn’t back him. Watch the contrast with Chelsea when we got players wide, we had constant harassment whenever we got funnelled inside. That was a team backing each other up, intelligently working to fill gaps and squeeze us into tight spots with no outball.

We can do this, we know we can as we used to be the best at this, but all the training, drilling and previous experience just dribbled out of their ears.

Having said all that, I’m not going to take anything away from Chelsea here, they did everything we used to. I don’t care that they’ve been in a bad run, they played very well today and totally took us out of our game from minute 1.

We seem to have lost a lot of games at home. Not fortress Spurs in anyway.
It will end up like the Emirates. Still makes me laugh it was easier to get tickets for a 35k stadium then it is a 60k stadium. There lies the problem just like Man City. There is at least 10-15k fans there on a jolly.

The most disappointing thing about today is the racism accusations ?
I didn’t hear any from where I was sat but there was a telling moment when dele shook rudingers hand afterwards

Was just thinking the same. Thing that still baffles me though is what were we working on in training all week? We were so bad!
