Seems like Manure are after Carvalho which could mean Schneiderlin is available, although quite frankly we should now be looking to compete with Manure.

Without wanting to come across as dismissive, we can't compete with United. Yes we can compete with them on the pitch, but when it comes to the name, the stature, the pull and, most importantly, the wages, we really aren't even close to being able to compete with them.

You are probably right, I will have to take off my Spurs tinted spectacles. However, if they continue to fail to get CL for another few seasons I don't think any of those factors will apply.

Nah, I still can't see it mate. They're Man United, one of the very biggest clubs in world football. Nothing is gonna change that!

I hate to say it, but look at Liverpoo. In our hearts, they are no longer the club they were, winning titles & finishing above us, are practically unknown over the last 5 or 6 years. But they're Liverpoo, they still have that pull for players, the history & prestige that instantly make players ears tweak if there's talk of interest in them. Like it or not, it's a name/club that we are not able to compete with when it comes to the real quality players. Yes we got the likes of Alli when Liverpoo were also trying to sign him, but I'm talking about the proper big names. If they had a choice between us or Liverpoo, I genuinely think the majority, if not all, wouldn't be choosing us.

I'm not belittling our club, I just think, as a name or brand, we just aren't in the same league as the likes of Liverpoo & United.

It seems everyone is mentioning this lad on here. I've never even heard of him, so would you be able to enlighten me a little as to what he's like, how he plays, if he fits Poch's ethos etc, please?

I've been wondering that too. Think he stood out when we played them? Can't remember.

Possibly, although on Talksport recently they were saying that any player faced with a choice between us and Pool would be crazy to choose them.

Also I think you underplay the attractiveness of London for international players.

If we do attempt to sign a RCB (which is unfortunately seeming increasingly likely), then I wouldn't be surprised if we try to sign Ajax's Joel Veltman who, from what I've read, is basically a younger Alderweireld.
He has been playing right-back for Ajax.. I wouldn't say he's the greatest defender but he's ok.. fairly good on the ball & has a good cross on him.. if Trippier was sold it would make a lot of sense to have a player who can do a good job at right back & centre back

I honestly had never even seen the guys name until last week when someone mentioned him on here. I thought it was a joke I'd missed out on & it was a nickname for someone people on here didn't like/rate

Oh I do understand all of that mate. I was just pointing out, as a name, we aren't in the same league.

It comes down to money in 99 per cent of instances. I don't believe history or global status plays that big a part. Big players were happy enough to go to city when they weren't really seen as a historically big club. If the money is similar then other things will come into play like status and location.

If Mourinho's got any sense he'll pair Schniederlin and Carvalho (if they get him) up in his 4231.

As @coopsieyid said, even if we ignore the fact that ManU still have substantially more kerb appeal than us and can pay bigger fees, the biggest factor would also be how far behind them we are on wages we could offer. They'd offer Carvalho 3 times what we would.

Whilst I agree Liverpool are still seen as a more iconic name than us, I don't think it's quite as clear cut with Liverpool right now. With Klopp there and the slightly bigger wages they pay they probably could tempt some players over us, but I think if we are getting close to the wages, then some players would choose us and CL football over them.

Everyone says this but you can get city shy bumpkins or someone who's own city may mirror Liverpool and them feel at home, Aleppo possibly.

There have been massive issues with players failing to settle outside of London. Some players are becoming more and more introverted and sticking together in close groups.

There's also wives & girlfriends to consider.. schools.. shopping.. social life.. Not just women.. most people would choose to live in one of the best cities in Europe over liverpool

It seems that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has had enough of being loaned out by Bayern Munich and wants a move to a home where he can develop his game.

Goal article link: http://www.goal.com/en-ca/news/4188...3702/hojbjerg-confirms-desire-to-leave-bayern

The 20 year-old Dane would seem to be an ideal alternative to either Dier or Dembele in the centre of the Spurs midfield. I would think that he would be a reasonably priced alternative or addition to some of the other players being mentioned for that role.

Here's a YouTube clip:
