Catch 22 means a no win situation....

there is nothing No-win about building a new stadium for the right price.

The whole point is that we want to build a new stadium to have more money but in order to build the stadium you need to have more money, hence catch-22. In order to achieve your goal of X, you need to do Y, but to do Y you need to X. Therefore, it is impossible (unless something changes) to achieve X.

I think there are several simple points here:

1. Yes we need more money to compete and can only get that through a stadium but a stadium costs money. But it's not really a catch 22 - that's where capital financing comes in, like virtually any other major private sector project. How do people think that skyscrapers, shopping centres, theme parks etc. get built ?

Oooh ooh! I know! Middle Eastern Sovereign Wealth Funds. :grin:

It's not catch 22 because there are other ways of raising money than with a new stadium.

the 'arsenal model' involves putting weaker teams to the sword, our problems right now have been pitch based, its got nothing to do with spending money on stuff.
