People said it's just a matter of time before we thump someone. I've always felt it's the opposite. Big teams like City, Liverpool (generally speaking) can have a couple of off games and win, but they have so much quality, that they always come back strong and start performing. We don't have that. Historically, tonight, this is us, it's what we do. We have been winning, but have played absolute gash, 90% of the time, and we are being found out. Our mentality is so fragile. Our players look knackered after only 8 games (thought we were super fit). We look like we have never played together. It's weird. All we hear out of the club is how much everyone is happy, they all love Conte, they're all positive (all of which is probably true). Any other season/manager we would ALL be saying that there is something seriously wrong at the club. Bizarre.

All this is true ,and in all those positions we have added players, it is a scandal that Conte does not make any chages earlier when it is clear to everyone. What does he need a bigger squad for? waiting until the regular 11 are dead or injured before he changes.

it is weak management and it makes for a toxic dressing room very fast if player feel they deserve a chance, but can not get it when they players the compete against just strolls around
Absolutely correct ?.

The drive he can offer from midfield would just be another dimension. He's either suffering from a covid hangover or poor in training but he deserves a run surely
Bissouma and Spence would have made that difference in the last 10 mins But never mind on to the next game. Not end of the world.

Emerson spent the entire night running up and down that pitch making up for our usual deficit in midfield. He was fine but neither of our Wing Backs should still be on the pitch after 80 minutes playing this system. They will always be exhausted. Conte has always made those subs - now he's not. And it's cost us big time.

Fine if Doherty and Spence are second and third choice but they have to be trusted to come on for 15 minutes or we'll keep on conceding goals like this.

Emersom wasn't great, we can all see his limitations. However Kane was absolutely terrible, far worse than Emerson and Son.

Come on mate that’s going a bit far.

fact is Kane and Son haven’t been at it this season and it’s finally cost us...at least Kane is getting goals (except tonight), but it’s now time to bench Sonny for a few games. Kulu looked dangerous when he finally came on and doesn’t deserve to be on the bench.
Contes tried playing Sonny back into form and it hasn’t worked, time to see if a few games out does the trick.
Sorry mate I disagree the team has got away with it so far against a few teams but tonight have been deservedly punished.
I didn't see the game because I'm out of the country right now, but if it's anything like the rubbish I have seen to date I have not missed anything.
The wingbacks and the midfield create next to nothing and the forward line can barely control the ball and bring people into the game.
Are you happy with the start to the season then?

I really want to see Spence getting a shot at somepoint. I think he could easily take that starting spot.
I agree he should get a shot, but I think offensively he is still really green so in terms of output I am just not sure we will see it or Conte will accept it. Doherty for me is the best fit at the moment.

If he doesn't bring on players then rather then spend money on back ups BUY A FUCKING RIGHT WING BACK
Preferably the one playing for the other side to tonight ..well as long as City don't want to buy back.

starting to wonder how good our transfer window really was - still stuck with Emerson and a one-paced one-dimensional central midfield.

all we've done is buy a forward who seems to be leeping our best forward, Kulu, out of the side for some reason.

the lack of control and class in CM is really concerning me.

Lucky City was cancelled on Saturday then.

Strangely enough I smiled when that second goal went in, always love to see a cracker like that and it sort of made it easier to accept the defeat.

I don't see the snobbishness. People are saying how shit we are. Sporting were ok, nothing special, defended quite well and broke well, but we were passive shite. It's not like Sporting had to play well to beat us, we should be putting these teams under far more pressure. Did their keeper have a save to make? barely.

Son and Kane not a single shot on target. The football is pretty woeful and has been all season.
No before the game not after.

Davies, Hojbjerg and Emerson were dire. Heaven knows what has happened to Son but he needs a break.

Chronic performance and even worse result. Lloris , possibly Peresic and richarlison did ok , the rest were brutal, Peh very poor, not in it at all, surprised Bissouma didn't get 20 mins.
I have backed Royals improvement, but as bad as last yr tonight, wasteful going forward and poor at the back, but not alone in being poor at the back, Romero and dier equally as bad.
Not going to even try diagnose Son and Kane, thought Son looked a bit sharper at times, but just badly needs a goal. As for Kane, has he completely lost his first touch, looks ponderous at times, yet still created best chance with quick free.
This result has probably been coming, hopefully it's a wake up call, front three need to start clicking soon.

One from Twitter
Emerson managed to be the worst royal this week and one died and another got called a peedo in public

We were very flat. Absolutely reeked of Europa League.

Son and Kane need to get their acts together soon, we can’t carry them much longer.

Conte needs to start using his squad.

All that being said, we were reasonably comfortable despite playing in 2nd gear. Should have been a draw, but those last 2 mins will obviously shape the narrative til the weekend.

Disappointing, but hopefully a little wake up call that isn’t too costly.
We just had a whole week off.. ? :) .. Agree about the Europa L.-thing. We looked like many times before away from home. It must still be in our DNA.

We do need to talk about Son and Kane.

They are world class on their day. And they give so much.

But far too often they have off days.

The issue is you need your big hitters to be at it almost 100% of the time if you want to win stuff.

Look at De Bruyne at City? Or Benzema?

Theyll have a poor game every once in a while but 9 times out of 10, they'll produce.

Kane produces a lot and its not like he doesn't come good in big games. But there's plenty of evidence (finals, semi finals) to show him having zero effect, or worse, hindering our play.

As brilliant as Son is, Kulusevski offers more in the build up and link up.

I don't think you can play both Richarlsion and Son away from home, they are both largely runners, although Richarlison is better at hold up. Think you need a creative player who can hold the ball up.

Son needs to improve on his streakiness. And Kane needs to stop having these games where he looks like a Championship player in big games.

Until those things change we won't won anything.
Yep, Kane and Son are flat track bullies, sure in some ‘bigger games’ they have turned up against city and arsenal etc but they’ve also both been very poor in a lot of big games, perhaps they’re slightly overrated.

As you say a KDB etc has one off game in 10, Kane and Son have them mabye 3 or 4 out of every 10.

They need to do more but that is also why I think we need still a good 1-2 more quality attacking options

Yes. But what would you rather watch this or peak poch?

Conte is an amazing manager. I just find us incredibly dull to watch.

It was great watching us destroy teams at the end of last season. We just need a bit of patience - it will come. Poch didn’t get us going properly until his second season here.
