Oh and I actually thought Lucas should have controlled an finished that neat little ball Doherty played into him.

Someone correct me, but i thought VAR offsides should have some space between them, this was a new one with markings up to shoulder with no space between lines?

too slow getting the ball in to the forwards - Donkerty cutting back to his right foot every time, when a first time left footed cross would have had them on their backfoot. same on the right wing where Sanchez could have swung in a first time cross but pulled it back to PEH

On the weekend, we can bring in a creative type in midfield and a new striker... Another centre back would be nice as well, but 3 incoming is too much to expect.

Disagree, think he needs a loan.

Brighton, Leeds, maybe even Norwich could be good options for him. He needs back to back games to build up steam and get to grips with the physicality of the league.

Some really self entitled pricks posting today. Southampton are a decent side who defended brilliantly, we weren't brilliant but we weren't bad and created enough to win (and would have if not for the officiating). Some of our fan base really do make us look like idiots!
Yep some proper muppets in this thread today bitching and moaning and not stepping back and seeing the perspective both today and in general in terms of the process with Conte & Paratici

In fairness that’s not entirely Doherty’s fault. He was being played out of position and is a right footer.

Didn’t know but they have only been beaten once at home this season, we need to be sensible and see the progress, stop over analysing things.

Did we when, we passed the ball in front of them but had no idea how to break down the wall
When we scored, the ref didn't give it, he was wrong and we have to live with that but that doesn't mean we didn't break them down because we did. What you are really saying is that we didn't break them down more times

Winks has been our best player
He didn't have a bad game by any means. Not like Kane ir Son did. But he shouldn't be in position of the ball when he looped it into the box bringing down snow with it.

There was absolutely no need to have both him and Hoijberg on the pitch in the last 30.

Why Conte preservered with a back 3 was odd as well. It's not like your relying on the width and pace of Doherty on the left. Thought that was really odd.

Shocking officiating
Shocking that Doherty has no left foot
Shocking creativity
Shocking ndombele doesn’t get on
Shocking fast forward function on Amazon prime

So that VAR ref who denied Kane’s goal, with pack up, put his coat on a drive home and that’s the end of it. He doesn’t have to give it a second thought, because he wont be held accountable. He wont have to even justify what the f**k he saw that led him to rule that out.

Power + no accountability + no consequences are a very very bad combination.
Agree does anyone know even who made the decision? You can at least look for patterns then.

Doherty challenge for Forster supposed OG notwithstanding, he shouldn't be on the field. Ndombele should be. Davies is more than capable to hug the left side by himself. Hojbjerg can sit deep as an extra body for defence when needed. Doherty fucking handicapped the team.

Just one of those games I think. We did more than enough to win and had two very dodgy refereeing/VAR decisions go against us. I also thought Doherty and Gil did well coming on although I would've liked to see Ndombele replace Hojbjerg

Some massive overreactions in here today. We weren’t great In this game by any means but I don’t think there was a lack of effort, and we were genuinely unlucky to have 2 goals ruled out in the second half.

We would’ve won with a little more quality - some players who are slightly out of form and should be doing better (Son) and some who will never be good enough and need to be replaced (Doherty). It’s never easy against 10 men when they’re putting everyone behind the ball. No excuses next game though - we need to do better. I’m not concerned yet though.

People need to stop bitching about the referee and need to focus on the lack of ability in our team to break a team down
We weren't great but how many legit goals do we have to have disallowed before we are allowed to bitch about the ref? We should have won that 3-1. How often do you score more than 3 goals? We created the chances (and scored them) but they were disallowed

Partly on Conte this one. He's been our worst player in a decade and today he's asked to play out of position to make him twice as shit. Could have put Davies, Gil or Lucas there against 10 men, or even change the formation. Anything to not put Doherty at LWB

Doherty was involved in three good chances: his overlapping run led to his shot, he clipped a good cross into Lucas whose poor touch let him down, and he did well to release Gil on the right for a shot that was saved. It was a good cameo in my opinion
