Soldado is a penalty box sniffer... a goal paocher who comes alive in the 6 box. His excellent first touch and link play comes from being coached at Real Madrid and playing in Spain, where one touch football is king. Not because that's the type of player he is. Put him in the box, put a big man beside him, and fire those low balls into him. That's how most of his goals in Spain were scored.

He said that it is a fact that there is strong evidence.

50% of the time it works every time.
Even if it was 16 million, it was still out of character for Levy to pay that for a 28 year old.
It's not money we can afford to lose really.

Not usually, no, but we did have a particular windfall. Most others could be assumed to have a decent sell on value (when we purchased them), so could, I suppose, offset some of the loss of spending a bit on an experienced striker.

The earliest report I found of us being linked to Soldado is october 2011, when Redknapp was manager.

Then we had a failed bid in 2012.

Baldini and AVB were no where near the club in 2011 and 12. There is enough of a smoking gun there to suggest that Soldado was Levy's choice and whilst I wouldn't have expected Soldado to fail like he has done, the fact of the matter is he has failed and we paid 26 million for a 28 year old, something that we wouldn't have dreamed of doing before.
So Levy is the one who should shoulder the overwhelming amount of blame.
I remember reading on this forum somewhere that some said that Levy had been after Soldado for years.

No it does not say that, it just says that AVB was happy with the pursuit of Soldado not that it was his choice.

Levy may have said to him that it was possible to get Soldado and AVB just went along with it.

Is it a fact that we've only paid 16 million?

Or that Baldini, as sporting director, suggested Soldado. That is his remit, after all, and, as the article says, AVB lobbied for his appointment.

No idea. It's more likely to be a fact than rumours from such dependable sources as football.co.

That should be his remit however whether it is, is another story. Even Sherwood struggled to define Baldini's role.

Reported in the Guardian as well who got it from local Spanish media.

For me Soldado should play up front with either Kane or Lamela just playing off him. We then need good through balls and crosses to really get the most out of him. A return to the 4-4-1-1 with proper width might just suit our current squad (although it would require our wide players to actually start performing)

Yea I distinctly remember him being linked to us a long time before his actual signing too come to think of it

One would think with how thinks are just taking so damn long to show the slightest sign of improvement since AVB was sacked that some fans would come to see the light and realize that AVB wasn't really to blame for the mess we're currently in. Yet here you have it, fans actually blaming AVB for the signing of players like Soldado, even though AVB explicitly has stated how he asked for non of the 7 players we signed last season.

Some people just can't let go of their mindless hate. I just wonder how all those fans who were asking for AVB's head while crying for Pochetino to take his place must be feeling now.
