It's interesting that there are not Club's falling over themselves to sign Modric. Only one club last year and one this year. And that's if all this Real Madrid talk is true too.

My take on this is that Levy has told Modric he will only be sold if it is to a club abroad and not a direct competitor, which rules out the three usual suspects in this country.

But, apparently, PSG were very interested and willing to meet the price-tage and Modric was adamant that he wants Real.

I think it is a 50/50 thing, TBH, we won't sell to EPL teams, Modric wants Real only - in which case he should be being more accomodating. Little twat. Just think, if he had played this differently, he could have been helping us (hopefully) to a win yesterday, as a farewell present with us wishing him all the best. Instead, I consider him to be one of the most odious little rats to ever got near our club.

Just out of interest, I know we all want him gone as soon as possible, but if the hold-up now is that Levy wants more money because rat-boy wants a loyalty bonus and Levy really doesn't think it should come out of our end (as the twat just plain doesn't deserve one), just who would want Levy to stand firm (oooooeeeeeeeerrrrrrr, missus), and who would want the disloyal little striking, trying to force us to lose loads of money by accepting a low-ball offertwat to get a fecking joke of a loyalty bonus just to get rid of him?

The part I find most frustrating is hearing fans blaming levy because we're not owned by some russian/arab/*insert nationality here* billionaire...

Of course we have to sell to buy, we don't have an owner with bottomless pockets! To hear people getting pissed because we haven't spent circa £100m on ade, LD, Llorente, Moutinho & Lloris is frankly fecking laughable!

Some of the fans need to get a grip on reality... We don't have a billionaire but we do have the next best thing... A good businessman.

Or perhaps they'd like to go back to the sugar days?...

Or who's up for a little Ridsdale action?...

Levy's style may be frustrating, but surely we want him to try and get the very best deals for our club while building foundations for the future in the background.

Like it or not, football is business, or even capitalism if you like... Biggest chequebook wins... and we don't have the biggest but by god we make our money work.

Donna Cullen said last January that 'Our spending is done, to be honest' - and it is. I don't understand why people still expect us to spank multi-millions on players anymore. The money isn't really there, and the money that is there is going on things like the stadium.

Absolutely mate, that's why I got annoyed in the match thread yesterday. A bit of perspective here.

Drives you mental, doesn't it?!?

Wanted to post several times yesterday but figured against it due to not wanting a "time out" just yet.

And colonel... What's so old about my post? Would love to hear your valid and constructive reasoning... but I won't hold my breath...

You know someone's lost perspective when they use Peter Risdale in their argument.

These things are not black and white. It's about getting the balance right and Levy leans heavily on the financial side over the footballing side. Good for the bank balance, not so great at pushing us on to the next level.

Since Levy has been chairman we have raised a couple of levels at least.

As parklane says, we've done ok so far...

And the ridsdale comment is not a loss of perspective (certainly not compared to some) its more a figure of speech, a stereotype if you will...

the last 2 words of your post are the crux of the matter... Next level... The next level is trying to compete with 2 billionaires and one of the largest football brands in world football... Hardly a baby step.

We're already competing with the teams with similar resources to our own and the next level is a massive leap for us... The new training complex and planned new stadium will provide a platform for the push but until we have both in place and functional, levy has to squeeze every ounce out of what we DO have....

The next step would have happened if Levy had seriously backed Harry in the transfer window in the last 2 seasons. We were one of the lowest spenders despite being on the verge of having a great team.

We've been hovering around 4/5th since 2005

And that is because is it bluddy hard improving beyond this already fecking improved a whole fecking lot level, isn't it?

The Risdale/Leeds argument is wholly valid - the only reason we haven't done a Leeds is, well, because we haven't done a Leeds. The whole idea that there is suddenly one transfer/transfer window where we could do a bit of a Leeds, just this onece, never to be repeated, honest guv', even if it doesn't work, even if we need one more striker/play-maker/central defender/keeper, honest :sneaky: ist just nonsense. Leeds did a Leeds not because of one individual deal, but because they stepped onto that path. We haven't stepped onto that path thanks the absolute feck!

Levy did not seriously back Redknapp in the transfer windows over that last 2 seasons. Fact.

Just as we were on the cusp of pushing on, the money dried up.

Your FACT is debateable.
1 - there were allegations that Levy was prepared to pay for some high-profile strikers, but that Redknapp dithered and was unsure.
2 - we still got 4th. I wish folk would stop making a big bad drama about this. We finished 4th. Levy provided Redknapp with a team good enough to finish 4th, at least - afaiac we should have finished 3rd last season. So, why are folk going overboard dramatic that Redknapp was terrible terrible deprived?
3 - you still don't seem to be accepting the fact that it is a fecking bluddy hard job to persuade those step-up players to jon us. Why do you think that is so easy? BC has opened a thread on the subject - it is, ultimately, a matter of appreciating just where we are as well as where we want to be on the food chain ATM.
4 - I think, eventually, due to his shenanigans, shiftiness and general lack of trustworthiness Levy just didn't 100% trust him anymore. There was reputable ITK that Levy just didn't see Rekdnapp as pulling in the same direction in regard to his policies. Ultimately, it made sense to not allow him to blow our precious funds on his own nominee players when there was a good chance he would be off (via his own instigation through whoring himself out and England-gate).

Harry blew it on buying back Keane and Defoe, especially Keane. I admired RK as a player, we had his best years and raped L/pool for £18m, but we should have passed.

Redknapp had the opurtunity to get players like Huntrlaar, Rossi, Suarez, but he could not make his mid and by the time he did we lost out.

And qualifying for Europe on a regular basis under Levy, having several world class players during that time. I get it that you do not like Levy but surely you can see that he has lifted us up a couple of levels since he came here?

If you can remember we were bottom of the league when he took over and desperate for any striker to join us. They were the best players available at the time.

Very harsh.

Well Harry has gone and we still haven't signed a world class striker. We didn't get one under Ramos either which suggests the problem is deeper than just the current manager.

We will never get a world class striker at least not until we get the bigger stadium, but i agree since Ade left we have not replaced him. I will wait until the window closes before judging thei window.
