Don't feed the troll guys...

One of the things poch does seem very good at is training players into the holding role. Dier has hardly played there, and dembele had always been a bit positionally loose when deep until last season. Now they both look like naturals. My take a while but hopefully we'll get there. If he did also want Isco / coric, then he must be thinking sissoko will play deep at least sometimes

He'll play the left right out position. He'll be on the bench and cover/provide options for CM, 10 and wing. I don't think he was bought to start, just to cover.

My one caveat here is I think Eriksen is off next year (ITK whisper and a gut feel), if Lamela keeps going on his trajectory I can see him moving to 10 with Sissoko taking over on the right. I don't think it'll happen this year but I think it's in the back of Poch's mind
I personally don't see the logic in offering Eriksen a new contract if we felt he was going next summer. It would make far more sense to have sold him this summer when his value would still be high, and we'd have CL to attract better players as a replacement.

He looks strong on the ball driving at the full backs, and seems keen on tracking back, so my guess is he gives Poch the option to play 4141 (most right) or the RM in a 442. Him + Janssen would be good against teams that try to park the bus.

Agree that we would try our best to keep Eriksen. He is essential to this team.

He has played 3 times in the last season as a CM, twice for France where he wasnt great and then once for Newcastle in a big defeat to Man City

He hasnt played there consistently for a long time, the last time he did was 2 seasons ago and newcastle record with him there is terrible.

So it has to be strong wideman.

People rave on about his performances for France but that was at RM/RW. As a CM he wasnt great.

Why do people not get this?

I don't think that people don't get, I think it's that it is largely irrelevant considering Dier played in midfield about 7 times in 3 years prior to last season. Sissoko played CM 12 times the season before last and 11 the season before that.

And the fact that his club and country stopped playing him there should you tell us something.
Pochettino plays more or less 2 Dms in midfield, sissoko is certainly not a dm. I will be amazed if poch starts matches with sissoko in any other position other than one of the 3 behind the striker

France haven't stopped playing him there, they swap him around between CM and the AM spots, in fact he apparently played CM when he came on yesterday but Italy.

Dembele, Mason and Bentaleb aren't DMs yet played in CM for us. Even Alli has played CM and certainly isn't a DM.

Where he plays doesn't matter. What matters is he drives at and beats people and doesn't lose the ball. We haven't had this since Townsend but Townsend doesn't track back enough to warrant a starting spot.

I hope that Sissoko will end up playing on the right a lot and push Lamela in to the 10 position, as I think that's where he's most effective.

My preferred pecking order would be Sissoko/Son/Lamela on the right, Lamela/Alli/Kane/Eriksen in the middle, Eriksen/GKN/Son on the left.

£30m for a 'Jack of all trades midfielder but master of none' is a ludicrous amount of money to spend especially considering we are not flushed with cash. Before all the sheep start going on about MP being 100% backed, yes he was but he has made massive mistakes before with big signings (Osvaldo anyone)......

£30m for me had to be a game changer who would walk into our first team and make a massive difference, does he....?

Dembele, mason, benteleb or whoever play in pochettino cm are primary Dms even if it didn't/doesn't come naturally to them.
I've been looking for a heat map of average positions of the dier/dembele partnership of last season to try to prove or disprove my point but I am struggling to find one
