So......

What did Poch have in mind when he pulled the trigger on Sissoko?

Was he buying him as the strong beastly central midfielder he use to be? Possibly to take the pressure off Dembele.

Or has he been bought as an attacking wide man?

I'm thinking Dembele cover and i'm not sure how Sissoko will take to that considering he now believes he is Maradona.

Thoughts?

Panic buy. 50/50 chance it will work out. Rumoured 30M fee is not the whole story.
That's my two cents.

Not really answering the question, is it?

For me he's our much needed competition/direct replacement for Dembele. He'll get plenty of playing time this season, we all know Dembele will break if he consistently plays more than one game a week.

I don't see why it won't be both. When we need to rotate Dembele, Sissoko will slot in and provide a similar drive from midfield. When we're in need of some pace and direct running he can be played out wide and work the opposing fullback. Poch likes versatile players and with our long fixture list I'd be surprised if he didn't get plenty of playing time in both positions.

He has played 3 times in the last season as a CM, twice for France where he wasnt great and then once for Newcastle in a big defeat to Man City

He hasnt played there consistently for a long time, the last time he did was 2 seasons ago and newcastle record with him there is terrible.

So it has to be strong wideman.

People rave on about his performances for France but that was at RM/RW. As a CM he wasnt great.

Don't think it's unreasonable to think he's viewed as both. He will provide competition to both Lamela and Dembele. Something they really didn't have before yesterday.

Cover for both dembele and lamela simultaneously, allows son to play on the left and eriksen either central or bench. If used for both positions, he could be a perfect signing in terms of cover.

True enough but who was he paried with in midfield for Newcastle? Jack Colback? Vernon Anita?

Here he'll be playing alongside Dier or Wanyama, which will give him the security he needs to go on those marauding runs forward. The fact that he hasn't performed at a high level in central midfield is definitely a worry, but I'm optimistic that it will work better here than it did at Newcastle.

Considering that Lamela can be played as a No. 10, Sissoko's signing also puts greater pressure on Alli and Eriksen to perform. If he can be successful at CM and not just out on the right wing he will round out the squad very nicely.

I think what a lot of posters with a narrow creativity and reading capability span fail to realise, is that "panic buy" directly answers the question. Pochettino has at this point no idea yet how to best use Sissoko (neither have I, to be honest), and it is a 50/50 chance he'll figure it out adequately.
But by all means keep the spam-ratings coming, I love them, and they say more about you than me.

No offence the season, he was paired with Colback, Colback was easily their best player in the team that season and even got an england call up, considering Newcastle are shit thats a decent accomplishment

Before that he was paired up with Tiote before his huge demise

I think he will play in both but we will have to see which position gets the best out of him. This could be the making of him, as he gets to play in a good team with a good manager, not the clusterfuck of a club that he played at before. If he is as just as inconsistent for Spurs as he was for Newcastle, then we have made a poor signing.

I for one am excited to see what he does for the team.

How do you know that Pochettino has no idea how best to use him? He would be a pretty shit manager if that was the case.

I saw enough on the YouTube highlights reel to convince me that he'll be an almost like-for-like replacement for Dembele.

Why would YouTube lie?
